thought i`d see if this engine would fit as it likes the gearing that the 600n uses , had to shorten the crank so the clutch would fit , had 4 flights so far ,running rich cos shes new , running +/-14 on the pitch with stacks of cyclic and she didn`t bog once , time will tell if the belt holds up with the torque , there is some photo`s in my gallery , shes awesome

Wow! that is cool, What else did you have to change to make it fit? any custom parts? what size blades? longer tail? Details dude I am interested in this! LOL!

i used a TT 70 engine mount , the sideframes open slightly but not by too much , the hub that slides over the crank has to be drilled to suit the ys crank , the ys crank then has to be shortened so the clutch fits , i did mine with a grinder a little bit at a time till it was all snug . then slid it into the frames and redrilled a couple of fixings . the base plate is trimmed slightly and will be tidyed up after xmas i put a plastic crossmember in behind the engine to make it super stiff , made from cut down plank engine mount . fitted pipe n links and up she went . the rest of the heli is standard using 600mm blades, tail blades etc , will play more after xmas and post wot breaks first as i start to open her up

I think with all that extra power I would be using metal main blade grips

I see you have tried raptor rotor head on your 600N and the 600N on the raptor. What was the outcome which head did you prefer?
also i go with spinky on the blade grip question

I just got mine done also. Have been working on it all weekend. It looks like we had the same thoughts there Ady but I used a JR Vigor mount instead. I am going to go and try it out tomorrow with some extra pitch!
I will see how it does also. Here are some pics of the build and setup after it was done.

This pic has a YS .61 that I used for mounting but I have a YS .91 installed right now as the final setup.

YS.61 Sold

What head speed are you running it at so I know where I need to set my governor to get some good performance out of my .91?

happy christmas , i`ll run a 2000 headspeed to start with then work from there when shes run in , i gave put PFTE dampers in so i`ll keep the plastic grips on to give a bit of flex , i`ve been using a headspeed of 2150 when it had a os 50 in so i`ll aim for that when shes run in , replys may be slow cos its christmas , jay1 you`ll love it , falcon , the rappy head was good on the rex , loads of cyclic and pitch , i had modded it so the head was solid , gave great feed back it did , ady

headspeed of 2150 on plastic grips sound to risky to me.

Merry Christmas & safe flying.

been ok so far chap , i think i read somewhere that they where ok up to 2200 , but also cos of the PFTE dampers its best to have a bit of flex somewhere in the system , i`ll keep an eye on it , i`ll be running in over the next week or two so i`ll be set to 2000 for now

How did you do it?

How did it run with the 61?

I originally built it to work with the YS .61 but got a hold of a YS .91 so decided to put that in instead. I did not fly it with the YS .61. It is all ready to drop in as I took off about 2mm off the length of the shaft and sized it too fit in the starter shaft. It is considerably larger than the OS .50 so I am sure it will have more torque than the OS .50. The pics show it installed.

Yeah, I knew there was a way to get this to work. Weather right now is too windy and not favorable so I have to hold off for a better day to do a test flight. Now that I have more torque to play with, I am going to increase my pitch to +14/-14 to get more lift at 2000rpm. I am with u on the plastic grips as I have been flying them at 2000rpm with no issues on some mild 3D's. I may later invest in some metal. I did replace the gray bushings with the black ones. Have to wait and see.

Here's another one

I used the stock motor mounts. Just had to drill new holes in the engine mount flanges.

I used a set of frame stiffeners to add some strength to the lower end.

Modifying the end of the crank was easy to do with a file or grinder, and the fan hub center had to be drilled out to 5/16.

So far, the hardest part has been modifying the bottom plate of the frame to get the engine to fit. I think doubling this will be a must. That's gonna be the first project for next week.

I would be testing it right now, but it's currently snowing here.

Thats too funny, we build it all and we cant go and test due to the weather.....

I am excited to see what it will do myself.

This 91 has so much compression, I'm wondering if my starter is gonna turn it over....

I thought the same thing George but I am bringing out my trusty 24V drill as I have tested it with and it turns with no problem.
