I went to the LHS to pick up the tail shaft for my rex tail that I'm putting on here and while I was there I found a main blade that works for this thing. For hovering tests I took off the plastic at the root on the HBK stock woodies so they would fit into the rex grips. I didn't feel comfortable doing anything but hovering with it like this for fear of throwing a blade. I went through all the blades at the LHS to see what would fit the grip and not be too long and ended up with a set of fiberglass mains for a Shogun 400. I just tested them and they are perfect They are about 10mm longer and seem a hair lighter.

$16.99 at my LHS and I don't have a scale but I noticed the weight differece just by holding them so it's probably 2 C-hairs the cyclic is a bit crisper and I also gained some x-tra lift due to the larger blades. I'm in the middle of putting the rex tail assembly onto the king right now. I'll have pics and hovering test results later tonight. Another note: These blades would probably work on a stock HBK head if you shim them to fit the larger grips. I also saw some blades for a MX 400 there that are about the same length but thicker root and that might fit the stock head without any shims.

Well after 6 hours of beating grinding, cutting, measuring, and beating my head off the work bench the tail mod is done This was way more of a pain than putting the rex head on. 2 hours of it was because I didn't have the belt tight enough and it was slipping at about 3ft in the air and I didn't notice so I thought it was something I did and tore it all apart including the boom to make sure the belt was not twisted up in there and then I went over the new gearbox and mounting again As far as how much of an improvement this did do the answer is: not much. The tail is crisper from less slop but I still don't like it's lack of holding. I'm guessing this is due to the low tail ratio and the larger blades. I'm probably going to get the 43t tail gear next.

Does anyone know of a US dealer that carries the 43T pulley mod?

Update on the stretching of the boom

Well I goofed up and picked up the wrong belt from the LHS I got one for the 450X instead of the XL belt and they won't have the right one until Wed. but I'll have pics up later of it so far. I cut the slit on the side of the alum. tubing and have it in the frame with the longer supports on so when I get the right belt I'll cut the boom down from the 24" that it is to what I need Oh just in case anyone wants to know the tubing I got is 5/16 X 0.014 aluminum and I got it at the LHS. I also picked up a maingear for the Blade 400 for the heck of it along with Blade 400 landing skids and the maingear fits really nice in there

This is where it is until the belt gets here. I cut the boom down to 16" which should get me into the ballpark when the belt gets here.

This is the planned color scheme for the new canopy

Almost forgot here is the batt tray extension to compensate for the longer tail.

It's a HDX450 batt tray that's epoxied onto the lower frame.

As it sits right now with the Rex XL canopy on it's 25" from the nose to the end of the boom. I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose about an inch once I get the belt and trim the boom to length.

Yeah I think 17" is what you told me so I'm pretty much there I can't wait to see this thing once I get the head and 325mm blades on it I have my brother in laws HBK here for some maintenance so I took a side by side.

I'm looking to try 235 blades on the 500E due to the lower headspeed I could use more lift....

Yeah, that's why I'm building this around the 325's so when I get the Bell 222 fuse I won't have to worry about lift at lower HS.

I got the canopy 1/2 done today. I'm going to put the stripes on tomorrow along with the screen in the side air inlet. I'm happy with it so far As you can see I just glued on the glass so I'm done for the night.
