Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Still cant get good climb out on xl gas/G23/710 blades

HI,
i asked for help on that already but still cant get my setup to run right .
Those gas engine are really hard to tune as you dont have many hints to see if you run too rich or too lean ...

Today i went for flying and reduced my pitch, i made my throttle setup as per Billme guide with the 50% mark on carb and all linkage look good.

All is fine till hover, then when i go for full throttle climb out the engine really bogg/slowdown, it look like it would die after 10 sec of this.
No matter what high needle setting , i tried from 1 turn to 2 turn it doesnt seem to effect the engine much.

This thing have to get power !what i did wrong ? iam almost at 50% throttle on mid stick hovering thats not good i heard around 40% usually:/

Even with not so aggressive pitch curve the zenoah should swing the sab 710 blades easy right?

Thx for any help iam deseperating i go fly and try to tune it every day
Btw i got stock muffler on it , maybe thats why ??

I had this problem try richening your low end needle about 1/8 th turn counterclockwise , that should work ,it did for me on both of my x-cell gassers.

On both of my gassers the low speed needle was the correction, once I got it set right it should climb out like a raped ape, it took a little time but once you get it set right you'll love it. Let me know how you make out.
Also read your other post it sounds more like your low end setting as these were the same problems that I had.

could it be his ATV on his throttle, if it's set at less than 100% it should be turnd up,,, shouldn't it ??

turning up my ATV (on my glow heli) worked for me, but I had to redo my curves...

It could be however in his other post he said it would die in a hover mine did the same until I adjusted the low end

Hmm atv, i got a new radio recently 9zhp and didnt do any atv on thr channel , but will check it , my throttle curve is almost a straight linear one , iam a bit worried bout needle setting tho.

I am at 1 1/2 turn on both i think ,i can only check the spark plug to see if its not going white color=too lean,

It was real black when i started to fly this heli then i went leaning both needle, now the plug look grey , i think it should be brown/red right ?

My new mixture got less oil also i put 60ml oil for 1 gal or 4.5 l.

I hope i didnt screwed up something here.

What you are describing sounds more and more that you leaned out the low speed to much as I did on mine I am almost posative that your problem is in the low speed, I don't think you messed anything up beleive me after what I was doing on my first gasser, If I couldn't screw it up no one can. I am real curious to see how you make out after adjusting your low end that should give us either a solution or point us in the right direction.

hehe ,
i will test it tomorow
Never tough low needle could afftect top end performance like that ,but i want it to climb good , now as it is it bog even in a stall turn

Ps: anyone got needle setting to compare ? i mean how many turn in each? i dont understand very well thos 3/8 and such, how about 1 1/2 on high and 2 turn on low ? i will test this weekend.

I understand there is a big difference between gas and glow helis, but I just thought I would tell you about my ATVs,,,,

I went from about 78% to 100%, and my climb-outs increased quite noticeably !!

I hope it helped !!
