Ok, finally got the heli back up and running.

Hooked up a battery, checked pitch, servos, tracking. played a bit.

Hooked up second battery. played a bit. THEN, like something out of a horror movie, motor didnt respond to Tx, went to investigate, saw smoke coming from canopy, unpluged battery, and got that great whiff of burning circuits.

and this is what the ESC looks like...

SO what the hell now?

Just checked the battery connections, all is +to+ and -to-.

Looking at the belt, there was a twist in it that might have caused more tension on the main gear, otherwise everything is stock.

Your thoughts....

I'd first try a warrenty claim. If that doesn't work or the repait will take a long time, replace it with another one. Get one with a slightly higher amp rating your motor is drawing.

On Tryan's suggestion I'm running the ELE Advanced 30a. At the moment I'm exchanging email with techs at ELE regarding programing it. Its not so simple.

It was the stock esc on the #2 HBK2 so i will pull the purple motor and esc of the other one and put it on #2.

you may of damaged the esc when you tried to mail your heli. Just took a while to finish it off those little components can burn a hole in your skin sometimes before they quit.

Smells like a dang sasquatch in here

ok, stock ESC burnup also took out the stock 72mhz RX!!! I know this because it pulled the esky 3900 motor and 25A ESC of the other heli and it would not work. THankfully i had already gotten the futaba 6ex Tx and Rx. Put everything back together, did a little test ramp up, looks good. now just got to check on the bats, maybe its time to shoot some video of the big yellow smiley face balls scooting around the floor.

Hey Burlyman38 someone I know seems to be having the same problem He bought a brand new king only to take it home and smoke the esc on startup. So I tryed a 16 amp one I had on my old v1 king and it would barely work. Not enough amps. He finally got a 20 amp esc and I trimed his heli out and everything was fine. He took it home and was hovering it when the darn esc took another crap. So since I have a few parts laying around I was going to give him a new motor and he was going to purchase another esc. I will also check if its binding before I install the esc and make sure the belt isn't looped twice. And mind you this heli is brand new from the box rtf. Doesn't surprise me, its man made This time I told him to get a 30 amp esc to be safe. But it sounds like something is binding and when I looked at it the first time, everything seemed to move freely. Just going to have to take a much closer look this time Jimmi

Burlyman... I had posted before about using a seperate batterypack to setup or test your heli radio, for 2 good reasons.
Safety, If your esc is unplugged your blades can't spool up and hit you while your working on the heli, also you can check things out in idle up with no false starts...
Fire, For some reason (Tryan please explain)The ESC will burn up quickly if left in a non load powered up position... I had one burn and it wasn't pretty. So Now I always unplug the ESC and plug a nicad pack in it's slot on the rx when playing with the setup...

I had already gone through the setup and was trimming things on the ground when the motor became unresponsive and then smoke poured out from the canopy. I already had an outrunner and a 25a esc to replace the stock just had not put in on yet.

Since putting on the upgrades i havent had a problem. Thanks for the input though.
