I think it's a good design but, just look at the recent problems with getting a 10 year old design (E101) converted to Marine 1. Already millions over budget for a regular helicopter. No one has the money for a trick heli(full scale). The US Army just cut the number of lite recon helis it was going to but by 30%. It is a suped up Jet Ranger that's already costing $12 million each!

Pointless! I think the "inventor" does not realize how much thrust you can get from the main rotor of the heli. You just need to tilt it forward a bit more.

And the fastest heli I have seen is the Henseleit Rocket which I believe is a variant of 3DNT. It was as fast as my pylon racer so I'd say over 120mhp

And there you go, from the man himself via Yug's link -- 101 mph. That's more like it.

I was wrong his was the electric record.

Here's the current worlds records:

World Record Data

Here are a couple of links to the current FAI World Records

The current glow record (10cc engine limitation) is 145 km/hr = 90.1 mph

http://records.fai.org/models/current.asp?id=195

The current Electric Record is 125.6 which is = 78 mph

http://records.fai.org/models/current.asp?id=284

I hope to break both of those this year????????

Pretty much. This heli takes 140 size engine delivering around 3.6HP. The other amazing thing was how slow its huge blades were turning. Imagine seeing it passing in front of you at 120+mph and 1200RPM on the main rotor. It just didn't seem normal!

This guy is a joke and just trying to make a quick buck from those that don't understand anything about helicopters. If you note the electric motor on the nose,is not even running, most of the time. Below is the true test to increase helo's Vh.

Piasecki X-49A Speeedhawk Compound Helicopter: 250-mph Black Hawk?
Piasecki Aircraft Corp. (PAC) has designed and developed a compound helicopter called the X-49A Speedhawk, which utilizes a Sikorsky YSH-60F Seahawk helicopter as the base airframe. The Seahawk is a marine version of the UH-60 Black Hawk heliocopter series. The Speedhawk's "compound" aspect is comprised of wings for additional lift and a vectored-thrust ducted propellor (VTDP) for additional propulsion and control, the whole idea of which is to make the helicopter significantly faster so it's correspondingly significantly harder to hit from the ground by the enemy. A faster helo means less time for the enemy to react and target it.

[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu2CwHwxJYA]

In forward flight, the Piasecki VTDP system provides significant forward thrust power while the wings take on a significant percentage of the lift role, so the helicopter is no longer relying solely on the main rotor for both functions. In other words, the...

main rotor gets a lot of help, so the helicopter can fly much faster with less effort. The vectored-thrust aspect handles the anti-torque/anti-rotation role of the traditional rear rotor blade while in hover mode.
The Piasecki-Sikorsky X-49A Speedhawk VTDP tech demonstrator has already flown over 200 mph, albeit in a "slight descent". It accomplished this feat during a flight test on October 08, 2007. The Speedhawk achieved a speed speed of 177 knots, which translates to 203.69 mph. Not bad, but since the non-compound/standard SH-60 Sea Hawk Helicopter's top speed has been listed at 180 mph, we're guessing that a compound version utilizing the same airframe--like the Speedhawk VTDP compound helicopter, for instance--once fully-developed, will be able to fly significantly faster than that. We'll just have to see.

Credit card can't be max'ed I have more up grades to buy!

I haven't time to search right now, but I can assure you that the top RC pure heli speed is higher than 90 mph during flat level flight. If my stock R50 can do 76 mph, measured with a GPS unit (6 extra ounces of weight) and witnessed by many, the record could not possibly be in only the mid 70's.

Gimbal,

Remember, there's a big difference between anecdotal records and officially recognized records. It's actually a bit of a pain in the butt to set an official, FAI-recognized world record. There's a bunch of documentation and proof that has to go into it, that your average modeler isn't going to take the time to deal with.

More like the predecessor, if my memory serves. I believe the 3DNT was based on Rocket design, but I'm not 100% positive.

It was a fast one, no doubt, but as I recall, it had headspeeds on par with your average 90. Again, I could be wrong...

True enough, but I'm comfortable with the record referenced in this link from Yug's search, whether official or not.
