I am interested in converting my Century Hawk 30 to electric and would appreciate any suggestions for motor and battery combinations. I have a Triton charger so I can use 6 or 8s if I use 2 batteries in series. I eventually want to use it for a camera ship so not interested in 3d.

Do a search here and on R C Groups in the electric heli forum. Many threads available and just a "search" away.

Thanks Boyd,
I had already done the search but I looked like a lot of those threads were several years old. I was hoping for some more recent set ups if there are any. I have a CC45HV controller and would like to run up to 8s. I am looking for a good economical motor to run. It looks like a Mega will work but there may be some newer motors out there now too that will work.
Thanks for the help

I used a NEU motors 1907/1.5Y running a Joker pinion and a 6S2P/5000 pack, runs great.

the motor and pack run cool and motoring around get over 15 minutes flight time. The NEU motor only needs a simple U-bent piece of Aluminum as a motor mount..

Mounting battery packs is a bit of a problem as the Hawk really isn't setup with a lot of internal space, so I sling mine in between the skids when I fly, looks wierd but allows me to tweak the CG for balance

Doug,
Are you using the fanned version of this motor. I found a deal on a non fanned version. Do you thing that this motor on 8s and a CCHV45 would be a good set up.
Thanks

Svenaslav,

I am using the standard 1907 model and I think it has a fan inside the housing, and the particular KV rating of the /1.5Y on the motor, a 26 tooth pinion and using 6S packs yields a head speed in the 1700-1800 rpm range, right where the Hawk likes it,

I used a Phoenix 80 speed controller simply because I had no way to measure the current and wanted to be on the safe side, a 45 Amp unit should be fine as my experience shoes the "cruising" current requirements is quite low, not sure about what it would peak at if I tried 3D.

I have the flight electronics powered by a separate 2s Lipo pack into a voltage controller set for 5v, that takes care of the sorry of the electronics failing when the 6S pack loses power
