I read a post on rcgroups, he was tired of seeing those shoes on power line while going to work or something like that. He decided he wanted to cut them

Gee, that was smart. Call the power company and they'll remove debris stuck on lines when reported.

LOL. I love that his heli was totaled. Gotta love the idiots out there. Without them we would not have entertainment.

I think these guys should put together a "How to with your Heli" series... "Stay tuned for next weeks episode where we rescue uncle Bobs cat from a tree"

It was a phone line, not a power line.

Just goes to sure that there is never a shortage of moron's in this world. As shaky as he was hovering he is lucky he didn't hit the power line.

Yea, the lower lines are the information lines. Its just stupid funny that he totalled his heli. I wonder at what point he thought "maybe this isnt a good idea". What did he tell the "old shoe"(no pun intended) when he was hitting the check book to repair the heli? "You know honey, those shoes no longer pose a falling threat to passing children!!"

if the shoe wouldnt have fallen into the disk he would have succeeded.

but of course the end result more entertaining

strap a set of electric scissors to it and your in business... hehe

You guys really need to take a look at the original thread... the guy attached some razor blade to the tips of is blades! (with pictures)

The other discussion is named "I'm putting razor blades on the rotor disk", do a search... (not here)

Here is a pic of it

I think that would have been even stupider...

A helicopter with razor blades is unlikely to do serious damage to the actual cable - especially as the blades are rotating roughly in line with the cable, and not at 90 degrees to it.

A bullet probably could damage a metal cable, if it hit at 90 degrees, depending on the type of bullet.

Where is that bullet going to land when it comes down? In Iraq, during the 1st gulf war there was a point when everyone believed Saddam had won; they went out into the streets shooting into the air. Several people were killed by falling bullets...

Although it's not something I'd ever do...I find it kinda cool. He set a goal that didn't put anyone in danger and had fun with it. And he was (for the most part) successful
How does that make him a moron?

I think he was the smartest man alive!!! Definately!

In all seriousness, I think the guy set out with the best intentions but it ended in disaster. Naturally people are going to point and laugh. Its the nature of the beast. We've all been there.

Hmmmmmm, lets put razor blades on something that is spinning 3000+ RPM and see what happens. These helis can be dangerous enough without doing crap like that.
