| Tips on making web page, use at your own risk
Use whatever software works for you, the folks here have offered some great suggestions. I'm not into all the flash and such so I just use Notepad and Allaire Homesite which gives you a WYSIWYG(Wiz-e-Wig - What you see is what you get) editor, a browser(uses IE) and an advanced text editor for raw HTML all in one. WYSIWYG editors are notorious for making a mess of the raw HTML which is difficult to decipher if you ever have to do some things by hand, homesite is no different.
Worry about presenting your information in an easy to access(in plain view) and easy to read format. Try not to make one page with EVERYTHING on it, break it down into multiple pages using a logical structure. Music = Bad, not everyone has your taste in music and most folks will leave a page before they turn the volume down.
Simple text only pages with clickable links are a good start. Once you're happy with the data presentation, then consider developing graphics.
Put a link on your page to your e-mail address and ask your viewers for their opinions, some will be unrealistic, but you can rake in quite a good amount of usefull information, spelling corrections, etc
If you use a graphic background, make sure that the entire text is readable at any point on the page and not washed out.
Find a "Worst of the Web" website and check out the pages they link to, there are some really horribly designed pages out there which are a great "What not to do" guide.
