| UpgradesMotor and ESC - The stock motor is underpowered and has been reported to wear out in just a few flights. You may get a good one. You can start with the stock one, and then upgrade it after it fries. But that could mean you are grounded waiting for UPS to arrive.
Gyro - IMO HH gyros are a must for new pilots. If you are a new flyer, a rate gyro is hard to fly. I've never flown the Esky rate gyro, but my LogicTech has a rate mode. Compared to HH mode, rate mode is really difficult to fly. The tail is drifting all over the place and I'm constantly working that tail which distracts from the other control surfaces. With a HH gyro, you really don't even think about the tail except for where you'd like it. Put it there and it stays. The wind doesn't spin around and put you an orientation youre not ready for. Doug is quite a bit better pilot than me, which may be why he has less trouble in rate mode. You can try it, then order the Esky gyro for $38 to see how much better a HH gyro will be.
Batteries and Charger - This is a "nice to have" thing. You can use the stock battery and charger but you'll get much less flight time and far more down time waiting for the battery to charge.
Trex vs HBK2 - Your bugdet tells the story here. Trex is over $500 and you will still need servos, a charger, tx and rx. |
