I'm looking to start a new hobby and I'm trying to decide to buy a large electric or Gasoline machine.

What are the Pro's of gasoline over electric?

Greetings,

Are you looking at flying a scale helicopter or doing 3-D?

If you are looking at doing 3-D there are many ele. and nitro helis that are very light and fast. There are some who do 3-D with gasser helis too.

If you are looking at flying scale then either would be a good choice. However, you do have to consider the overall size and weight of the heli. A gasser helicopter can lift a good deal of weight. The scale gassers can be very large. Vario has machines with a rotor disk of 2500mm. There are of course smaller ones. A great amount of detail can be added to these models. I do know that there are a few ele. larger helis out there. The gasser does have a long flight time. Most people fly approx 10 min. at a time. With my Pod and Boom helis I have at least half a tank of gas left when I land after 10 min. With my scale heli I am under half a tank but I still have plenty of fuel.

If you choise the Electric helicopter you will be purchasing batteris for it and good charging equipment. These can get expensive up front but look at it as purchasing a lot of fuel all at one time. I have see these helis fly for 10-15 min. depending on the type of heli, battery, etc. The ele. helis are not very noisy and some have even called them, "the poor mans turbine."

That does bring up the Turbines. I have never met a person who got a turbine powered heli as their first. But, they are very cool and very strong.

What ever you choose, wellcome to the hobby and good luck. There are a lot of good people here and a great deal of knowledge.

Find you local flying club, get you AMA card, and have fun flying.
