Robbe Cuatro - Millennium - Nova - Dyna-X > Am I missing something? I cant align my futura belt!!

How the hell is it done?

I have done it many, many times before but now for some reason the belt always rides up.

I am fitting a Gas G26 engine to the helicopter (Robbe Futura), I have had this engine running fine in this heli before, since trying to mount the engine yesterday I have tried mounting it on my other 3 futuras all with the same result, I have tried switching engine mounts, same result, I have tried shimming the engine mount to angle the engine forwards hence pulling the belt down, same results. I have spent 2 full days (my days off) trying to mount this engine.

The engine has a 36 tooth clutch bell going to a 48 tooth idler. When looking at the top of the clutch bell it appears to be flush with the frame (with a 1-2mm gap), or with a very small incline to the rear, but nothing to suggest the rate at which the belt rides up.

If anyone has any experience in how to align the engine to keep the belt straight please chime in!

I have had an amazing run with my Futuras until 2 days ago, when I crashed my G23 Futura (my fault). Now nothing seems to be going smooth. I think they hate me now dont tell them I said that

Now 1:30am, Im going to bed.

I don't know what to say...

I thought I'd give it one more go, this time I didn't put any pressure on the mount, I just loosened the mount bolts and did them back up again, and now the belt tracks perfectly.

I plan to put a tank through tomorrow before work just hovering so I will watch it very closely.

The problem with the SE gas mount is that it has a tendency to sag. IF the pulleys are not square to each other, the belt is going to want to go one way in a bad way (up)

If you get it squared up and it still rides up, flip the belt and you will see it will go the other way. You can see this when you rotate the system in the opposite direction.

Hi OldGuy,

Haha, I did not go to bed there were infomercials on the TV that I "Couldn't miss"! (they told me so...)

Hi Stet,

Very interesting, I thought about flipping the belt, but I didn't think it would have any effect, how is this possible?

The belt has directional behavior. Why I am not exactly sure. If the pulleys are perfectly aligned, the belt will still go to one side, you want it to go towards the clutch
