Any make and model would be good for me.

Hmmmm...I think he is referring to a CAD or computer aided
design (software) rendition of a model heli. I think all
our new birds are CAD/CAM (computer aided manaufacture) developed
on the computer or workstation and emailed to the manufacturer
who uploads to their machinery and parts start flying off
the whatever.

Solidworks rocks -- a great CAD program. An old friend uses it daily, and lots of you guys have some of the fruits of his years of labor with that program in your toolboxes -- he's one of the lead design engineers at MagLite.

Sure will.

Szangvil, it'll likely be hard to find someone with something like that, because most who would have it will likely have it due to their work with a manufacturer, and those folks usually sign nondisclosure contracts in order to have access to high level proprietary data.

I figured it will be hard to get something like that...

Looks like its time to get out the micrometer and your favorite heli and start drawing. Shouldn't take more than a couple of months to produce a 3D assembly.

I'll have to be really accurate if I want the assembly mates to work and be able to run a physical simulation

Use the intelligence of SW and do a top-down design.......

I've been working on a TREX 450 in my spare time. I'll post up the assembly once it's done, but it'll be a while. Right now i'm still working on the frame halves. But when it's done it will be a complete functional assembly.

Someone proficient with the software could do it in a a few weeks worth of full working days.

I would suggest to say, if somebody can piss me off big time, I will probably can finish within a weekend, but needs to be really pissed off. It should not take more then 2 days reverse engineering heli. Design new from ground up will take way longer, but reverse-nope.

To "reverse" model a heli to atleast the precision of a production model would require more than 2 days. I have modeled the entire rotor head of the Trex 450 already. I'll post it up later on. My gallery also has pictures of a 3 blade rotor head I designed and modeled.

t0mills,

Ill trade you a Trex rotor head solid model for a Trex main frame model

Umdpru, yes it will take more then 2 days to reverse heli to production precisions, if you use common techniques (you create model individually and then put them in assembly), but SW has capabilities of create blocks (for each part in assembly) within one sketch, where you can sketch single part individually within a block, so entire assembly can be sketched at ones, then every sketch within block can be 3D modeled individually as individual part. Then create your assembly. Now if you use 08 version of SW, there is DimExpert and TolPatrol functions which will give you precisions you want to automatically (just set it up), then if you want to modify your part (which for some reason doesn't work in assembly) do not open it, just use "edit part" within assembly and all done in a seconds.
Just use all capabilities of SW.
I use SW 08 at my work-it is dangerously fast to design. No need to put dimensions any more-set up your preferences, drag and go.

http://solidworks.com/pages/product...remium2008.html read this page-you will see how fast it is now to design.

This is what I have modeled of the Trex 450. I did this to teach myself how to use Solidworks back about 2 years ago.

Not too many people have access to SW08. I have a bootleg copy of it at home which is nice. Hell, even at work we just upgraded to SW07 from 06. I work for the US Government though and they are slow to upgrade when it comes to software.

I haven't even used SW08 enough yet to know the advantages of it over the 07 version.

Umdpru.
I feel your pain. I work for privat company and design hi-tech stuff, so owner is buying pretty much everything we ask.
2008 is really more productive version then amy others. I used to work for RC industry designing nitro engines and chasis and I have worked on many versions of SW - 2008 is different.

About access to 2008-it is biggest problem. If I know that device I am designing will be intenal at work-then I use 2008, if I don't know who will be vendor or supplier I am going back to 2006/2007
