So what's the current thinking on pinions for the HBK2? So far the motor mount and tight space for the pinions is my biggest gripe about HBK2. I prefer the metal pinions with a grub screw, on machine beveled shaft, all mounted to a metal motor mount. That's from my car days where you need that stuff to survive.
Esky's pinions are press on which at first I didn't like. I picked up a metal pinion that looks like the Align version where the teeth angle out on one end to the wide spot where the grub screw goes. Upside down, right side up, both orientations caused the angled section to be in contact with the main gear. I didn't think it was close enough to cause problems. But 10 or so flights later, I lost the main gear and the pinion is all chewed up as well. I've fallen back to the Esky press on. We'll see how that holds up. |
