Here's a good for you guys !! I'm practicing inverted and suddenly hear this squealing like a pig sound, Turns out the Pinion gear starts slipping like a Mother Trucker and I lost all collective pitch while inverted !! Use Loctite or notch out a flatspot on your mainshaft if using a pinion gear with a grubscrew!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegmTNCRbPQ

like you say with every post.
It's only Money !!
I guess its a little hard to autorotate while inverted? Curious whats the damage, that was a pretty good crash with no cushion from the head hitting ground first. We have been having that early winter weather a bit breezy and gusty winds and 37 degrees. I did some boring FF at the ballfield today. I don't know why I spent so much time in my backyard big fields rock, I could do figure eights all day long. Hovering indoors is almost out of the question now I need big blue skies. But I am glad I did all that hover practice the control I have is awesome because of it. I'm flying in winds I probably shouldn't and my most favorite part of my flight is landing safe at home plate.

I was pleasantly suprised with getting away with only a spindle shaft and main blades which happen to be woodies in this case , not the Carbons. There is almost always a positive side to things, I guess !!

Ouch! Thanks for sharing the video and forensic analysis. Good to know what went wrong.

So what's the current thinking on pinions for the HBK2? So far the motor mount and tight space for the pinions is my biggest gripe about HBK2. I prefer the metal pinions with a grub screw, on machine beveled shaft, all mounted to a metal motor mount. That's from my car days where you need that stuff to survive.

Esky's pinions are press on which at first I didn't like. I picked up a metal pinion that looks like the Align version where the teeth angle out on one end to the wide spot where the grub screw goes. Upside down, right side up, both orientations caused the angled section to be in contact with the main gear. I didn't think it was close enough to cause problems. But 10 or so flights later, I lost the main gear and the pinion is all chewed up as well. I've fallen back to the Esky press on. We'll see how that holds up.

I have been using the Align 15 tooth pinion with the grub screw from Helidirect. Its my own fault for not using Loctite on the grubscrew. 15 tooth is a little extreme for most, but you can buy them in sets of 11, 13 and 15 for like $4.69 or some ****.

still going strong on cheap brass pinion with grub. Pinion upside down works fine just misses main gear with bevel I am using blue loctite. But just started using that extra switch on my remote called idleup Ill have to keep an eye on it more now.

I ended up with these settings 90-85-80-85-90 so Im running it fairly hard now.

Oh Yea ! Tryan and I have been flipping the pinion upside down if you find the grubscrew is hitting the maingear. !

Got a taste of that yesterday I was doing figure eights in a gusty crosswind. I know to fly into and downwind but wanted to avoid setting sun in my eyes. Winds were about 15MPH pushing the heli away from me a couple gusts I saw the old GY240 say hey none of that grabbed the tail and held it like a champ. Sure am glad I'm using a HH gyro and not a rate.

I think the Esky motor's shaft must be shorter than the HDX. When I put it upside down, the grub screw area hits the main gear.

Ya! its cool to see the gyro fighting the wind, and winning. Makes you appreciate those little devices. For setting up the 2100t you need to hover in rate mode. Every time I go through the setup, its "Wow this thing is all over the place, reminds me of the Blade"

Now it makes me wonder how the Blade would have handled with a HH gyro. I still have mine, maybe I'll try some day.

I do the same with GY240 but do it hovering in my dining room the tail holds twice as good as the BCPP in a hover. I dont miss that thing at all.

Oh man Evel Knievel died today now Im really bummed out.

I bought Tryans Eflite CP Pro just to see what it would be like to fly a Blade again and from my personal experience, its not worth the effort. The King V2 is 10 times better, I sold the CP within a week of having it knowing for sure it was a P.O.S. TRYAN was right, cut your losses and move on, it's a financial hit, but a learning experience.

Gregor, I'm sorry to hear Your Shaft is too short, we can't all be blessed. But seriously Gregor, I am also using an ESKY outrunner(3800) and the shaft is plenty long enough. If you look at the pinions on HeliDirect you notice some have a bevel or flare and some are straight, I get the straight ones with no flare.

So you have no flair you know the minimum is 15.
Quote

Peter: Doesn't it bother you that you have to get up in the morning and you have to put on a bunch of pieces of flair?
Joanna: Yeah, but I'm not about to go in and start taking money from the register.
Peter: Well, maybe you should. You know, the Nazis had pieces of flair that they made the Jews wear.
