Hello,
Does anyone have any experience dealing with kontronik from the US?
My Kora 15-12 motor just burned out and its still under warranty.

Sorry but I don't have any experience with this company. I'm guessing they should take care of you without any problems given their product pricing. How did you burn up your motor. I just got a Kora 15-14 today.

I've burned out two 15-12's on 5s...not that many flights either. Supposedly a 2 year warranty, right? Let me know what you find out. Tom

You might want to be carefull with the 15-12 on 5s. On the Kontronik website it says the 15-12 is rated for 2-4s lipo. Im running a 15-14 (rated 2-5s lipo) on my lepton with 5s and its perfect with a 21t pinon.

These guys are the service/support organization for Kontronic in North America:
http://www.icare-rc.com/

Their service request form is here:

Be prepared to wait a while...significant repairs they ship back to Germany. It took several weeks on mine, but eventually came through fine.

I was doing a lot of tic tocs in the span of about 4 minutes and all of a sudden I lost power and did an auto, it was the motor.
The manual for the 15-12 says the motor is rated for 3-5 lithium batteries and a constant power input of 600 w. with the tic tocs I was getting momentary spikes of 900w but not constant, so I think the motor should have handled this according to the manual.

Tday did you start using diferent motors?

I was at 4s with a hyperion...then moved up to 5s. I read all the motor reviews and the 15-12 and 15-14 by kontronics looked the best. It seemed like a toss up to me between them, but I didn't see other 5s's that were this light and in the right kv band. Nice motor when it's working. I don't have any idea what the watts output was, but one burned out with continuous rolls. That I could understand since it got a little hot though not crazy. I had another burn out with just ordinary but hard 3d flying.

What motor are you flying on the Lepton currently?

I'm thinking of giving the 15-14 a try while the 15-12 gets repaired.

I am still using a 15-12, actually...I'd like to hear more about the 15-14...especially around longevity, where that's defined as lasting more than 50 flights, say. I didn't give it a thought for the first 2 burn outs...figured I'm new to electrics and maybe that's the deal. Also had a 4s motor throw a magnet, so it didn't seem that out of line with that experience, though not what I was wanting. I also couldn't figure out if the Align esc I was using contributed to the problems. (You can see I know nothing about these electrics...but I do love the way the lepton flies!) Tom PS: am getting ready to try out a 6s logo 5...so if I'm lost now...wait!)

The Kora 15-XX range have a max rpm of 15,000

On a freshly charged 5S pack the Kora 15-12 will be 1,000 rpm
over this rated maximum - this may be a factor in the failures

Even when you drop down to a nominal 5S voltage
you're within 600 rpm of the limit

But you certainly do want to rev them well
as they produce more power with RPM

Overgearing any electric motor will also result in a premature burn. What pinion number is being used for the 15-12 and 15-14? The original Hirobo 24 and 26 teeth pinion is too high.

17 t pinion w/ 15-12/. good enough for me, not a 3d pilot just enjoying hover at the moment.

Can you guys confirm the warranty on the Kora 15-12? Is it really 2 years? I think mine burned out...out of the box actually. On the bench it seemed to work fine, but when on load (hover testing) it would cut out after 30 seconds. I tested the rest of the electronics with a different motor and it worked fine so the problem is the motor.
