he saved the tax payers a heap of dough in the process.

The down side is, now the Tax Payers have got to pay the DA's office to nail Horn. However, with economics in mind, hopefully Tax Payers would pay less for this case as opposed to housing and feeding those f#cking thugs.

Again for all y'all out there, lesson learned: Call 911 first, have the phone next to you, yell "Please please, don't shoot me!" Then empty your magazines toward the thugs!

I'd have done the same thing. If people knew there was a chance they could die stealing stuff, they wouldn't do it. I can't believe how stupid the relatives are acting "he seemed so eager to shoot...". I'd be mad too if I saw a pair of thugs stealing from my neigbor.

And then found them on my front lawn after they were done...

I wonder what they were doing? Cutting through the yard to get to their getaway car quicker?

umdpru,
Well you asked and here is the murder rate for DC verses Florida.

D.C 29.1 per 100,000
Fla 6.2 per 100,000

From the FBI murder rate charts by state.

How does the murder rate relate to the number of concealed gun carriers was the question. that is the link that you alluded to...

I think the simple answer is it doesn't. I am willing to bet that the vast majority of killings in DC are from people who use less than honest means to acquire a weapon...

umdpru, the rate of crime corresponds because as a criminial if you are pretty sure that the victim you are targeting doesn't have a gun, then they are more apt to take the chance. Odds are if your in Texas and you see a guy with overalls, a gun rack and a sharp look in his eye, a criminal will think twice, whereas you go to DC and see a business man with a pink shirt and a orange mocha frappachino, well I think the criminal sees a sheep just ripe for the picking.

Rappy,

That is your opinion. Where are the facts and data to support your opinion?

Frankly, I just don't think the murder rate corresponds at all with the number of concealed carriers.

I know a few people who have concealed permits and carry 24/7 and you would never suspect them, atleast according to your "sharp eyed, gun rack" type of person...

I think it's ridiculous to kill somebody because they steal something.
I would understand if they rape or beat or torture or are stealing a person.
Idiots. All of them, both the robbers and the "defender" - dumbass idiot. Get a life, man, and I think he may well get it in prison.
Idiot. Nothing more I can say. Get a fricken police to handle it, get a photo camera and take pictures of these guys from your home, do something meaningful.

Yes, you may not suspect them, but the simple fact that they are able to carry is that the criminals know it is allowed and they really just don't know who has one which would make them more hesitant and not so reticant to commit a crime. Whereas a place that bans concealed carry all together, there is a much better chance for the criminal that the person they are about to victimize would be unarmed. I don't see headlines too often where a criminal held up a clerk in a Police Station, that would be downright suicide. Criminals are usually weak individuals and go for the easy target, they usually don't want to die when robbing someone, after all the intent of robbing someone is so they can gain something(ie usually money) and live.

Like I said, there is plenty of data out there that shows that when a place has restricted or banned guns, that crime rates go up.

The point I believe our Texan frineds are making is that the Police wouldn't do anything. Sure, they'd come visit....after the perps had gone to ground.

there was a saying that "An Englishman's home is his Castle" Sadly, those days are gone in the UK, but at least there's some parts of the world where a man's home is his castle

Do something meaningful?? Mr. Horn bloody well did just that! It was a whole lot more meaningful than having to waste taxpayers money, firstly on police time and effort looking for the scrotes and then forking out to keep the buggers warm and dry with 3 meals a day for years.
Mr. Horn has at least given the police an opportunity to use their resources checking for the next Virginia Tech looney etc. instead of tying those resources up in his neighbourhood.

If so, post it. I don't believe it...

I also don't believe that a thief stops to think about whether or not someone is carrying before mugging/robbing them. Thiefs usually don't think in the first place hence the designation.

Thanks Tachy, well said my friend from across the pond. I'v heard that in England if you defend your home and property from a burglar and he gets hurt, the homeowner may go to jail. Is that true ??

umdpro,

Here ya go !! Ban the guns, crime went up 45%.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/a...RTICLE_ID=15304

EDIT: From above article.
Though lawmakers responsible for passing the ban promised a safer country, the nation's crime statistics tell a different story:

* Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;

* Assaults are up 8.6 percent;

* Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;

* In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent;

* In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily;

* There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

WASHINGTON (Reuter) - Allowing private citizens to carry
concealed handguns reduces murders and other violent crimes,
according to a study made public Thursday by two University of
Chicago professors.
``We find that allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons
deters violent crimes and it appears to produce no increase in
accidential deaths,'' John Lott of the law school and David
Mustard of the economics department said.
Their findings were made public by the Cato Institute, a
private, Washington-based research center.
The study compared crime rates in the 29 states that allow
concealed weapons with those that do not. Ten of those states
adopted concealed weapons laws between 1977 and 1992.
The two professors said the possibility that potential
victims might be armed often deterred criminals.

Yep, apparently so. i've read multiple stories. In fact, I read a story that a robber fell through a sky light window in the US. He injured himself and sued the homeowner and won!!!! How F'd up!!!
