I worded my post poorly. Given that he'd chosen to leave it off the hook, he could've better chosen what he said and was ultimately overheard.

Hell, he started out digging a shallow hole and then just dug it deeper with every word he said. Commendable actions, unfortunate choice of words.

maaaaaaaaaan.... you need a role model...I have no problems with this guy walking free because I have ZERO friends that break into cars and houses. I have ZERO respect and ZERO tolerance for anyone who does anything like that, even as a "favor".... my car's been broken into THREE times, and one of those times some punk kids took it out for a joyride which cost me $500 to fix, along with a whole lotta hassle of figuring out how to get around while my car was in impound and in the shop. I'd have done the same thing if I were that guy.

criminals get off way too easy in this country these days... it seems like these days if you don't leave the door unlocked, have all the lights on, have milk and cookies waiting for them, and a "thank you for robbing my house" letter sitting in front of your most prized possessions, you're begging for a lawsuit from the burglar for cutting their hand on the glass they broke, or for tripping over something in the dark.

if you're helping criminals break into houses and cars, I hate to break it to you, but YOU are a criminal.

PS... If I'd caught any one of those guys who'd broken into my car, I'dve snapped their necks like twigs without a moment's hesitation. seems like people these days commit crimes because they aren't afraid of anything or anyone... if this kinda stuff keeps up, they'll be afraid..... and if they're smart, they'll stop doin what they're doin.

OK that was piss poor wording on my part. I do not help criminals I help the OWNERS who have accidentaly locked themselves out of either their car, house, or toolbox.

I am playing devils advocate and trying to say that it would suck if you made a mistake and shot your neighbors friend. Thats all.

I did hear the 911 call and I think they got what they deserved and I hope nothing happens to him.

I live in Alaska where gun ownership probably rivals that of texas any day of the week.

He's not commiting a crime by helping a car owner or property owner gain access to their vehicle/home, whats up with you?!
He's jst putting accross the view that what if thoes guys had permission and wern't doing the dirty.
Okay, it seems very very unlikely due to their actions, but still *shrugs*.

Either way, here in the UK its not an option...
Backwards legal system would go in favour of the *victim* for breaching their human rights to not get shot... asside the fact they may be the scum of the earth itself *sighs*.

I personally believe in cleaning up the gene pool myself but have only ever had the opertunities to it hand out yellow cards *sighs*...

Unplesant people really grind my gears..

What is interesting here is that Horn, I think, thought the criminals were going to leave. Instead, when he walked outside, they were headed at him already. I wonder if these guys were going to break into multiple houses? We'll never know for sure.

I live in Florida, it is a right to carry state. And I do carry a concealed handgun (and the permit) and am happy that many states have the right to carry. Seems the ones that don't allow weapons are the high crime rate areas. Particularly our capitol, Washington DC.

Oh keep your eye on this one. There are enough liberal rumblings about criminal rights that even though this is Texas, you are likely to see this one in front of a grand jury.

Might step on some toes here but here goes.I think we need more like him. They won't steal from anybody else and the tax payers will not have to support their sorry a$$e$ for way more than the minimum wage.It's about the same as shooting a rabid animal.I have seen some tough times in my 43 years and have never even thought of stealing from anyone.Break into my home with me here and I WILL DROP YOU and have no remorse its that simple.The police don't seem to want to do anything, the judicial system is a perpetual money machine for lawyers and government.Its all to beat the man down.

I do not feel the Police are out for my protection ONE BIT. I was recenently hit by a uninsured motorist and the police 'enforcement' was astounding. The cop just shrugged his shoulder and said, oh well, live ya learn, they never towed the guys car, didn't do squat like it was no big deal. Then he gets onto me about not carrying my current insurance card!?!? I do not feel safe by the Police one bit, they certainly have never proved themselves to protect me at all, a law abiding citizen. They love giving out BS traffic tickets though to us though don't they. Hell, they'll even taser you if you don't want to sign the ticket.

I am not sure on this one. The guy with the shotgun walked outside his house, disregarding what the 911 dispatcher told him, and was looking for a chance to "kill" someone and then by his and only his omission, said it was in self defense. Don't get me wrong here but that sounds like intent to me. He wanted to do the right thing and stop those pieces of crap from breaking into his neighbors house but when given the opportunity to use his shotgun, he did. I am glad the robbers were taken out however the is pure vigilante justice, which is very dangerous in ANY circumstance. A lot of people are standing behind him because he killed two idiots but what if in the process he killed a child in their own hose with a stray round? Then we would not be cheering for this guy at all. All in all, I am happy they got what they deserved BUT the dispatcher said it best when she said "ain't no property worth killing for" ......Ron

. You'd never get shot if you were helping a friend 'enter' his own house. Just make sure your friend is closed by and have his a$$ enter the house window first.

Back to the case, with regard to the 911 recording:

If I were Horn, I wouldn't have told the operator the robbers were outside and that I was going after them. Instead, I would have yelled with the phone near by, "NO NO! please don't shoot me." Then, fire off my weapon!

My stance...

I think anyone who has been on this forum for any length of time knows my stance on this issue.

What is so great about this whole deal is not that the guy stopped the robbers or prevented future crime. The great thing is that he properly punished the criminals (something the state could not do) and he saved the tax payers a heap of dough in the process.
