Tools and Field Equipment > Field charging box setup question???

I'm trying to create a field charging box with two chargers and a 12 volt battery for charging at the field. I would also like to make this box able to be plugged into a 12 volt source such as a DC power supply for more versatility. Is there a way to wire it so that I can isolate the 12volt hobby battery from a secondary power source without having to use, say a toggle switch, perhaps a diode or something? Or is there any other way to make this happen?

am i right in thinking you want to have the battery give electricity to your chargers and automatically disconnect the battery when you connect a power supply . the power supply will then give electricity to the chargers and there will be no connectio to your battery

Why not use stacking bananna plugs for the wires going into your charger. Push them either into jacks that go to your battery or directly into your DC power source.

A bosh relay should do the trick. A diode would work also. how will you be charging the hobby battery?

aaaah your back again you mean.. its 12 days since your original post, on holidays i bet.anyway you need to get a relay with two connections to the coil and a change over switch contact .n/o and n/c .the way it works it this. when the relay is at rest one set of contacts are closed and this you use to connect your battery to your chargers.when the power supply is switched on it sends electricity to the relay coil and the first set of contacts opens and disconnects the battery the other one closes this you use to connect the power supply to the chargers and when you switch off the power supply the relay drops out and again connects battery to chargers again all done fully automatic by means of the relay switching when it gets power from the power supply.

alternatvely you could use a double pole double throw toggle switch .i know it wont be automatic but it,s a simple solution..
