This seen from another forum. More stupid than those idiots that flew a Raptor 90 nitro in the house.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tftFmiE_7qs

An obvious attempt at getting listed on the Darwin Awards

The resulting injury

Yeah, that was crazy. I'm surprised at how minor the injury was.

looks like it wasn't on purpose, looks like he lost it towards the end and his reflexes were to reach out and grab it. Totally stupid flying that close, especially when learning.

The question is... WHY??

Possible reason.

There is a dude in the USA that is offering $10,000USD for Jackass movie type video clips. Basically video clips of people having darts thrown at them, setting themselves on fire, jumping of buildings, etc

Youtube is now becoming more of a place where idiots show off their stupidity to the world for personal fame and an attempt at $10,000.

So that guy said he did that on purpose? BS!
That would only be a vain attempt to cover up looking like an amature.

Mistakes happen, and he was pretty lucky, considering.
The first error (and give-away) was walking out to follow the heli when it started drifting away, the second was obviously not moving out of the way when it started coming back.

The video is now at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ-GsJR-97Q&feature=user

Notice how he increases hovering height in order to be under it so as to reach up to grasp it.

The aftermath

See them before they disappear again.

What a bruise!
I bet that stung in the morning!
What a pillock. I mean he seemed to have proper control over the heli up until he got hold of it

Tach.

I wonder if this guy ever heard of the term gyroscopic precession (GP)? Sometimes it's fun to analyze these videos and try to figure what this guy was thinking... or maybe not thinking Sometimes I'm not thinking, just not at this level Anyways, I believe he thought he could grab the boom and the nose of the heli would just drop to the floor while keeping the rotor on the far side of the fuselage and out of harms way (main shaft perpendicular to his chest). The only problem was that when he grabbed teh boom he must have applied some force to pitch the nose down. Due to GP the heli rolled to the right and put him in line with the spinning rotor resulting in a Darwin Award nomination

Point is, be smart and when you grab the boom of your flying heli always take GP into account*

* If you didn't catch the sarcasm in the last line, you may want to list you heli stuff on Ebay ASAP.

Personally I like to keep 20+ feet from my flying heli and use throttle hold when approaching the running heli on the ground.
