For any UK club flyers who want to improve your flying, the Aerobatic Helicopter Association (AHA) is running 2 leagues for Sportsmans in 2008.

The A schedule is fairly basic, and aimed at anyone who can do basic aero's, loops, rolls etc, mixed with a couple of hovering manouevres.

The B schedule is more advanced with multiple loops, rolls etc, and more complex hovering.

Dates and venues yet to be confirmed, but if anyone fancies having a go and want any more info, then ask away.

I entered my first comp at the Nationalsand came lastbut it gave me a goal to aim for, and I learnt so much.

Top bunch of fellows, as well

Sean

I really can't understand why more people don't enter these events - they are fun, educational and very social.

If you're going this year, drag along a fellow clubmember for support and help spread the word.

Looking forward to 2008 :>

Bruce.

probably bruce cos the atmoshpere

when i first joined 2yrs ago you had 2 groups

the JR lot who were arrogant and kept themselves forming a click to themselves along with the motts,

then you had Dave, darren, ian contessa, who were really great.and made you feel welcome, along with your comical self, i used to t hink screw this, i have given up a day away from my family to be here with people andonly few would help and offer advice on setup.

so i endedup saying stuff it...

Now things are changing, a lot of new ones are coming onbaord that
has made things change, the Jr lot are now in the minority....

I look forward to it. i just have to remeber how to fly lol

comps

Well here we go again the politics have started again, the jr lot are arrogant so you say.well over the 24 years that i have been competeting i have seen the good side and the bad side of fai but to openly call the jr lot arrogant is taking things to far,i think you are arrogant for bringing up this issue and perhaps you should ask yourself why you are into the competition scene,Me i do it to better my flying ability not to rubbish people on the forums,i hope that a newcomer to the competition scene does not see this topic as it might make him think twice about entering makes me wonder why i still want to compete.regards Noel

this was not a slate JR this was an answer to Bruce's question as to why some dont take it up, i told him why after my first year, i backed away, if you dont like it i am sorry about that, what i said is the truth, and funnily a lot agreed. but would never speak out. this was my finding 2 yrs ago....

if you actually come off your high horse you will see i said things have changed a lot hence the reason i am really looking forward to going back to flying comps,

2yrs ago
i did go there to improve my ability, and i did, as what i wanted to do,was not finish last, and last i did not finish.

And on top of that, it made me a better safe flyer,

but it wasn't the champs that helped or encouraged, apart from Dave and Darren,it was people like Ian,Pete, and Adrian, malcom, cheng,

i could not get over the politics, as you , after 24 yrs of flying said you had seen, but obviously like the rest, keep quite, i dont i am not scared to speak my mind,

and i answered honestly and openly why i backed away after the first year.Which was in answer to Bruce's question,Why dont a lot more take it up?"

As said in my second post, things have changed, a lot of new blood is coming through and this has got to be encouraged for the Hobby to survive especially as FAI is seen as boring when compared to stick bashing.

[quote]makes me wonder why i still want to compete.[B]

cos you like me you want to improve your flying ability which you said in your same post

i love the dsicpline of FAI, and in the sportsmans it is a great crack and laugh, as after all it is only a hobby!!!

Let bygones be bygones, I say.

That was all in the past and doesn't matter now.

What's important is the next season, and (hopefully) gaining more members and promoting this intriguing hobby of ours.

Considering my first comp was at the NATS, which is probably THE most serious (AHA) comp of the season, I was amazed at how friendly and approachable EVERYONE was

Can't wait to meet up with you all again

It's gonna be a long winter

i look forward to meeting up with old friends and getting back into flying the comps seriously,

It will be good to put some faces to the names of posters here.

I hope the winter is not too long, :-)

have a good weekend

well i think that about covered it
i will fly again as this gets more aggressive then 3d
had a great time flying last year at the comps some very nice people there's only two groups if that's what you make it Matt
i have received constructive help from most people there from the top to the bottom its what you make it
if i had a criticism it would be
I'm sure they move the flags while I'm hovering and I'm sure there not looking at the same centre as i am in the Aeros and i wish the judges would remain seated though out the whole flight
a caller should never run thanks for flying with me R60 and your support in sportsman's and encouraging me in to competition flying

go and enjoy for your own reasons beat your self up over your flying and not other people come and enjoy the disappointment of not winning like i do the
see you there next year
Bond get a bigger fuel bottle for the Nats great idea you should market it

A pilot should never put a caller into a position where they have to run

Cupra,

I'd just like to say that the dog is now a model of perfect canine behavior and has many gold stars to prove it.. ahem

I think he was just showing that he liked you in his own funny little way..

Maybe if you concentrated less on flying and more on learning to throw the frisbee further you would have a better relationship?

I'm ready for him next year gave up the flying lessons for dog training my pups getting bigger and if i can get her to do what i say i might bring her next year it was a bit cold in that tent
i thought some one at you level should have advised me more instead of leaving me stood in fear he is quite nice and I'm getting a bit better with dogs
got me an r/c Frisbee 50 size that will keep him on his toes
after scaring me before every flight i thought the nerves of flying were less good training aid
can i take him to the free flight ?
they keep telling me ive got to be the alpha male with the pup but its not working its like my heli i know what i want her to do but she just looks at me blank and buggers off up the field
going to get her to bark when I'm over the flags

best regards to Harry

Ah yes, the NATS - I remember it well - 3 o'clock in the morning camping on a peaceful runway - the mixed smell of burnt glow fuel and second-hand beer wafting on a gentle breeze. From the tent to our right came the rumble of snoring that could be likened only to a pond of frogs, competeing with the inebriated, but somewhat horse cries of "Harry .... HARRY ... HHHHAAAAARRRRRRRRRYYY!!!!!"'s from the tent to the left.

Ahhh, fond memories.
