Hi, I am currently stationed in Kosovo. I am an AH-64 Apache mechanic w/ 1-359 AVN. "Aces Wild" Task Force Griffon. I have been flying planes for 5yrs and recently bought a MX450 ES w,(ammo 2700,GY240,HeliMax 40amp ESC). I have a DX7 It is the plane model but you can set it up for helis. I am totally new I am not 100% sure how to set it up I really. I have tons of G.3 hrs and want to set it up for 3D right away. Can some buddy run me through a basic no brainer set-up. Or point me in the right direction. I would go through all the threads and try to piece meal it all together but i is getting near election time here and we have been flying alot of hrs. so I cant get alot of computer time.

Thank You,
SFC Parmentier

hi Nate
i have just put together a MX 450 and it is a great little machine , mine is setup on a JR 9303 , i am not familiar with the DX7 but i would be happy to help anyway i can , i don't know if you have seen this but i think it might help
http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/...?ArticleID=1713

this one is for fuel helis but covers 3D setups pretty well

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17740

you will see there is pretty slim info for the mx450 but i think you can use most of what you come across for the trex 450 and some of the other 400 size electrics

setup

go to helifreak and look a Finless Bob's t-rex 450 build and set up videos . Bob takes you step by step on set and the guy is heli guru. The MX-450 is made almost the same as the t-rex so it will help alot.
You will also find videos there on setting up your dx7.

THANX!!!

Thank You Very Much! Like I said we are flying a ton of hours here and Apaches break if you are flying them or not. We are super busy. I'm sure that this info will save me alot of time and confusion. And hopefully allow me to enjoy the time off I do have a little more.

Thanks Again,
SFC Parmentier

hi Nate
i believe you are not crazy , just misinformed , your RX is a 6 or 7 channel heli radio , i run JR so please bear with me , but the usual setup , and bear in mind that different manufacturers number the channels differently so on my jr it is

throttle 1
aileron 2
elevator 3
rudder 4
gear 5
pitch 6
aux 7

so the esc goes to #1 throttle
since we are working with a ECCPM 120 degree swash
you will have three servos going to the swash

they are
aileron #2
elevator #3
pitch #6

and the TX needs to be set for 120 degree swash

then the gyro plugs into #4
and the gyros remote gain into #5

and the rudder servo plugs into the gyro ( the rudder signal passes through the gyro on the way to the servo )

you may have different channel numbers for your spectrum but the names will be the same

throttle
aileron
elevator
rudder
pitch

hope this helps , if i am messed up i know someone with a spectrum will jump in and correct me , dana

PS: and not to confuse you but to warn you not to worry , there are reversing switches and a swash page in the TX where you can control the 120 degree setup , so when you first plug the servos in , they might not seem to work right until you get the right combinations of reverse switch and servo setting , this is a common problem when you first setup a heli and can be really confussing the first time through , just remember it will all work , just be patient and ask questions

and one more thing , you are probably figuring this out but collective pitch model hellicoptors are really very complicated , i am a total gear head and learned to fly on fixed pitch machines that are much more simple , but the first CP heli i had i had to ask a million questions and have things explained by about a half dozen different people , before it started to make any sense to me , just hang in there , and keep asking questions and be patient , remember there are no stupid questions , just stupid answers , and believe me you will be getting to sort through them , good luck and keep us posted

OK sorry next issue everything is comng together really well I figured out that the AUX1 channel is were the pitch servo is connected to. Yup Im a dummy Only issue now is when I run my motor. I set the throttl at a certain speed and irregularly it changes speed. Rpm goes up a little then comes down but not at reg intervals. It might be because I havrnt set my throttle curves yet. Im not sure if this is a common problem or not. Im sure its probably something stupid. Any ideas? Thanx Nate

hi Nate
i downloaded a pdf copy of the DX7 manual , and you are right the pitch servo plugs into aux1 ( ch 6 )
so on your RX it should be

#1 ESC (throttle)
#2 aileron
#3 elevator
#4 rudder ( gyro )
#5 gyro gain
#6 pitch

the gyro should have a chord with two plugs on it ( one with 3 wires , and one with just 1 wire )

the gyro plug with 3 wires goes into slot #4 ( rudder ) on the RX

the gyro plug with just 1 wire goes into slot #5 on the RX

the rudder servo plugs into the gyro

page 85 of the manual shows the swash setup for 120 degree swash . it uses channels #2 , #3 , #6 for the swash , when you move the throttle stick up and down you sould see the swash move straight up and down too , if it is tipping you need to work with the reverse switches or the swash page values , or both , they are all set to 60 default and you can make them -60 to reverse them , there's a note on page 85 about this

if you are looking from behind the heli and you move the right stick on the TX the swash should mimic the stick movement , pushing the right stick forward should make the swash tip forward , and pushing the right stick to the right , should tip the swash to the right

DX7 Setup on a MX400 pro

Why do so many heli flyers not want to share a good tip or some knowledge, it's like some type of big secret. In RC planes you seldom run in to this, everyone is happy to help.

I will get to the point... I know there are lots of MX400 heli fliers that have DX7 radios, could I get just one to go through their DX7 menu and give their settings.

I don't need a link to a 30 minute video on understanding the DX7 what I need is a basic starting point. I know there are variables to every setup but what a time saver it is to have a proven setup as starting point.

I have already been through the basic DX7 setup a hundred times and I still have a heli that doesn't want to perform correctly... I ran into the same thing with my Trex and a Futaba 9C, I finally had someone give me a setup and it flew great with a few tweaks after that.

Sorry if I come off strong but some of these heli folks are really frustrating.

I would rather have a dozen radio setups with different hardware then one video of someone pushing buttons.

Thanks
Electron
