Check out this worn linkage ball. It came from the tail pitch slider bell crank. This is the first part to wear out after 124 flights and nearly 19 hours of hard flying. Excellent reliability imo!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

That's uncanny. I just replaced mine today after 10 gallons (about 100 flights). Apparently the tail slider ball link is a wear point.

Mine looked the same as yours with the noticeable wear pattern. I had been watching it for awhile. While there was some play in it, it was still very difficult to remove so I let it go until now.

Thanks for the post and the picture.

Keep 'em flying.

Yep, same here except my link came off in flight resulting in a auto. Never saw this kind of wear on a ball before. Will watch this closely from here on.

They are kind of self lubricating (exhaust smoke) then they attract dirt, which acts like a lapping compound and wears the metal away, keep after them and they will last a while.

Thanks! Just replaced mine. It was worn just like that, causing a great deal of slop, except the wear pattern was exactly parallel to the bell crank. It is curious how yours is at an angle.

I remember getting shorted one link when I bought the kit and had to buy a whole new ball link pack. Turns out it was a good thing because now I had the ball link to replace the worn one!

Hey, also check the long ball link on the swash plate. It wears and gets sloppy too. The plastic guide is fine, but the metal wears. Go figure. Mine's a little loose already. I'll probably have to replace it in another five gallons.

Keep 'em flying.

mine was loose after 55 flights. Very loose on the ball but stil had a grip on the link. i'd be happy if they all did this as there easy to pick out wothout a major failure.

Best part is align has a spare in the spares bag

Just changed the tail pitch slider ball. Similar wear after 10 gallons but the wear was like n808 described. This will probably fix the tiny bit of wag I've been noticing lately! Thanks for bringing it up.
