Thanks for taking the time and effort to help me out. I messed around with the linkages today and think I'm almost there. I will check your measurements tomorrow. I actually found a crack in a long ball link which attached to the square frame in the head. I guess I had it off one too many times. I had to order some from a Esmart dealer. I think they should be the same.

I noticed your header tank and have one laying around the shop. How much flight time will you get with the header tank?

I actually contacted Futaba about the subtrim and they confirmed a no on that. I thought I missed something in the manual.

Bob, I noticed your post on the Daddyhobby site about the spare copper washer, this washer sits under the main gear on top of the lower main shaft bearing.

With header tank somewhere round 12-13 mins.

Bummer on the sub-trim.

Ran another two tanks tonight, I'm guessing but the run time including the header would go close to 15 mins. I leaned it nearly a full turn & it still runs quite rich but is producing reasonable power, there is some more running in/leaning out to do yet.

I had a buddy tach the head speed @ just under 2K so just as well I'm using carbon mains.

I'll need to try that 3rd bearing location again. In past attempts I couldn't get the bottom bolt to line up properly with the 3rd bearing in the position you describe.

Good flight info. Are you able to hover at half stick? What size mains are you running?

The copper spacer essentially sits flush with the frame on top of the lower main shaft bearing, I guess it stops the main gear dropping down & making contact with the frame.

I set up all my machines to hover at mid stick & this one is no exception. As per previous post I'm running 500mm mains, these are the standard Gaui Hurricane carbon blades.

Thanks Gavin

I got the 3rd copper washer correctly installed. I set my helis to hover at half stick also. You had mentioned earlier on that due to the rich running engine that it took near full stick to hover. What I was asking about were hovering characteristics on you last 2 flights. Did the power start to increase to the point that you could achieve mid stick hover?

Certainly as you start to lean the engine, naturally power does increase to the point where you can mid stick hover,
I was mid stick hovering by about the third tank.

Hi Gavin

I tried firing up the Gsmart today and got it firing but not starting. I was having trouble with the start up head as they call it, meaning starting coupler. It kept slipping and I finally had to replace the set screw. I had the main at 2 1/2 and am still playing with the idle screw. Where might your idle screw be set? Thanks in advance. Any more flights?

Hi Bob,

I thought you'd be well & truely airboure by now.

I'm not sure what the position of my idle screw is but I did have to crank it in quite a lot initially just to get it to start, now it maintaines a nice smooth idle.

Actually haven't flowen it for a few weeks as it is packed up for shipping off to my holiday home where I intend to run plenty of fuel though it over our NZ Christmas holidays.

Hi Gavin

I tried again this morning but before the engine starts the starting coupler overheats and slips on the starter shaft. It gets very hot (coupler) and the heat is causing things to expand and then the coupler slips and comes off the shaft even though I am using blue loctite on the shaft. If the coupler is getting that hot I am wondering why?

Bob,

Drop the motor out, then remove the starter coupling then drop the start shaft out through the bottom of the clutch assy.

If the start shaft is burred/damaged where the set screw contacts you may need to replace it, if it looks ok then re-install the start shaft refit the starter coupling (assuming it's not damaged?)always use a new set screw everytime as they are designed for one tightening only, blue locktite of course.

When all this is reassembled turn over the starter shaft assy by hand to check it is nice & smooth, if so refit the engine. I would then ajust my idle screw to one turn open & try starting it.

Initially my engine wouldn't start because it was flooding so badly with an overly rich mixture (over 2 turns open on the idle needle) it could be that you are Hydraulicing the engine & the starter has sufficent grunt to just keep on turning the start coupling.

Thanks Gavin

I'm beginning to wonder if my engine is just that tight. I played with it today and had it turning over for short periods but it wouldn't keep running with the idle at 1 turn. My starter hex still keeps coming off even though I put in new set screws and used a thread sealant with a 400 degree rating. I may drop the engine as you suggest. Bench running might not be a bad idea either. I installed a remote plug which uses a ground and alligator clip on the plug. Vibration might be causing problems with the plug/clip. Think I try it with the igniter directly to the head.

Got to Look And Play!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, all I can say is there are a LOT of heli's there and a LOT of parts too.....
The G-Smart parts order is confirmed to arrive next week...
These are some REAL NICE looking little heli's and if you are looking for something to go and just fly that you will not have to worry about, it looks like these will fill the bill nicely....
And you won't have to worry about getting parts... there is a full supply for each heli....
Once the weather breaks, you can bet that we will be out flying these little guys.... I came home with (5) heli's to look over, and just pick the one that I want to bore holes in the sky with, but right now, I am still leaning towards the Pegasus, since I brought home one of the specially fitted OS .18 CVR engines for mine... I flew the test machine at the end of last season and this is a entirely new heli with this engine upgrade...
But these little 450 sized heli's with .12's and .18's are going to be a LOT of FUN to RIP up the sky with too!!!!!!!! WOW, fits all of these machines... sure different then when I started!!!

Check them out here:http://www.pegasushelisusa.com/
They are here and ready to ship!!!!!
