Safety - RC Helis are not toys > Even small heli is dangerous

I was holding a Mini-T by the boom to test a few things out when I drop the collective stick too fast. At the full headspeed and negative pitch, it slams the heli on to my hand. The fiberglass blades hit my fingers and shattered the blades. Luckily the flying debris did not get into my eyes.

At first I felt nothing. A few seconds later blood just drips like hell and the pain hits me. I can see my tendons and bone(knuckle). Ten minutes later, a sense of stupidness.

Lesson learned:
1. Always have a first aid kit in your field box. At least have a roll or two of sterile bandage rolls. This gives you something to stop the bleeding. Thank God I did.

2. Concentrate on what you are doing and consider the consequences.

3. Never test the heli/aircraft like what I did. It has to be done at a safe distance regardless of its size.

4. Wearing polycarbonate glasses is important.

5. Follow advices posted on the thread.

Now I probably cannot fly helis for a few days or weeks...and is typing with my little finger.

Puffs...goes the Lipo.

Just found this video and I have not seen it before on RR.
Luckily this is a small heli and the guy is wearing winter gear or else it could have been messy...

Ouch!

I think the guy may have been lucky and escaped serous injury since he was wearing insulated overalls.

I allowed the main blades of a SMJ 400 to hit my fingers while trying to slueth out some vibrations. It was late at night (early morning), one of those sessions when you really want to fly the next day.

No real lasting damage (some numbness in the end of one finger) but the impact is just as you said, being more careful and focused, and recongizing when I am tired or distracted that I should not do things that necessarily require more focus and alertness. I also altered my methods for finding/fixing vibrations.

As I went to bed that night with my throbbing hand wrapped in a bandage I tried to act "normal", but in the morning my wife rolled over and asked "so, what happened last night?". I realize I can't (and shouldn't) keep anything from her.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.
