Howdy All,

Some of you know me As Charley from Rotorworkz A person who loves to tinker and make things work well......

Here is the latest in short:

After getting my HDX500-SA From Steve to test I noticed out of the box quality looked good I quickly put it together and went to play well......

I have often thought this size heli was never meant for me as I have ALWAYS! had troubles either slow cyclic Waaaaaay to heavy constant nagging issues, etc...

Needles to say I didn't think the HDX was to bad on weight so I was gaining hope but after flying it Cyclic was Slooooooooooooow!!

Im a Hard 3D man not that I can do all of it but I want my machine capable of it.....

Well eager to not let another heli of this size get the best of me I decided to Make myself some mods on my CNC Machining equipment. Well I am happy to say it didn't take much

A new larger size lower cup on swash plate and longer balls on upper cup this allowed almost double in Cyclic pitch.
Next was a new flybar Carriage this was needed because to get extreme cyclic a collision off original carriage into the main blade grips would occur.

Also the longer balls on the upper cup prevented collision of linkage rods at full negative cyclic. plus.... it gave a better cyclic pitch ratio.

With the SA frame you use such short servo arms which is no good for 3D with this machine. Soooooo back to the machine shop I go Now I made some Rotorworkz Subzero Servo arms to increase servo throw and also to lower servo resolution in order to achieve that twitchy 3D center stick flying style. with the new ams and new lower swash cup I had to rotate the servos output shafts farther away to correct geometry.

I have created a little video of it flying it is rather hard to see for those of you who have flown the heli stock will see that it is so much faster in response than original

enjoy

Charley

Charley this thing flys like one of your machines (fast). I was the one flying in the video, and yes it is fast in every way. It has the smoothness combined with the poppyness when you want it. I would recomend this helicopter to everyone looking for a 500 size heli.

Do you think it has a chance as a direct competitor to the Trex500?

Charley
Will there be a little kit with the needed parts to do your mods?
Failing that, could I see some pics to better understand what you have done?
Cheers

If you bling it, they will come :D
