If you really want to be cool, , I'd get some half or quarter inch close-celled foam and lay it on the bottom of the drawers.

Then you could make a cut out for each tool, and protect them at the same time. Also works great for a quick inventory to make sure your stuff doesn't dissappear....

Here's how I did my lid, dense foam cut out for the tools. Holds them neatly and I can easily find what I want.

Just lay your tools out the way you want them and cut around them with an X-Acto knife. I use a #11 blade. Takes a little pratice to get just right to where the cut out is just barely smaller than the tool to put a little pressure on it to hold it. The cover goes up and is held in place with velcro straps to secure the tools during travel.

This is a trick I learned from 18 years working on aircraft. A very easy way to do a tool inventory.

Hi,

I'm trying to find some of this "dense foam".
Can you help me find this on www.mcmaster.com

there's a zillion types of foam there, but when I think I have found the right one, it turns out to be $450 a sheet !!

thanks

Any type of plastic foam will work pretty well. Check with your local electronics or appliance store and see what they might have for package material from displays items. You want a foam that will not just break off like styrofoam does. I used some packaging materials that came with parts we received to do mine. Not really sure of the source of the foam.
