I know a guy who has a brand new one that was built and flown 2 times. He bought it as a spare because he has one already.
His name is Anson Hargrove. PM me if you want his number.

my brother-in-law has a T-600 belt driven tail on 6s and i have a Razor on 10s. i have flown his so i think i can compare the two. we are both intermediate in our skill level. when his is fresh they both fly well but different. the Razor is more gracefull and transitions more smoothly. part of this is because it is heavier (around 2 pounds which most of which is battery). neither appear to have any bad tendencies. the swash plate, head, and tailrotor seem to wear and become sloppy in a short time on the trex. the Razor stays tight. the boom clamp on the trex is barely adequate in my opinion. the boom has rotated in flight more than once. if the belt tension isnt just right it will skip when your giving the tail a workout. i think this is partly due to the square toothed belt setup. the Razor has the HTD round toothed belt and i dont beleive it has ever skipped. the boom is clamped very secure. the trex is very noisey compared to the Razor.the Razor is noticabley more powerful. the Trex is a great beater in my opinion and the Razor is sweet. the trex is a little cheaper to fix but if thats a determining factor, rc sailboats will probably be a better choice

Busted Blade, are you saying that the Razor is about 2 pounds heavier compared to the Rex and this is due to the 10s set up?

SO THE RAZOR IS THE BETTER HELI ?

I Would like to think so I know I said more bang for the buck but I guess thats apple's to Orange's I started thinking about it and a better flying Heli is always the better way to go but if its not much better then the other then bang for the buck would count so Im thinking I like sweet so Razor looks to be good way to go . What do you Think being there and done that ?

Well, first of all to properly compare apples to apples you need to compare a 10s Trex600 with a 10s Razor. A similar comparison could be made with the nitro Trex600n and nitro Razor.

In both cases I think you'd find, and most would agree, that the Razor feels a bit more solid, mainly due to ~0.5 lb higher weight, but the Trex600's will be a bit more agile.

The Razor is probably a bit more maintenance-free. I have over 150 flights on my 10s Trex600e and I have had to tighten/replace a few links to get rid of slop, but for the most part it has been trouble-free, esp with the torque-tube tail. I certainly have not had any problems with the stock swashplate. Both are very reliable heli's but if you want/need a maintenance-free ride, the Razor might be a better bet for you.

Both my Ion-x's have over 150 flights each and the only maintenance I've had to do is apply a bit of tri-flow before each flying day.

Best bang-for-buck? It's a pretty hard call, and many will have different views. Imop I think a 10s Trex600, with a few upgrades like TT tail and metal main blade grips, is marginally better value and spare parts are very quick, easy and cheap to get.

Probably a personal-preference-thing and you really cannot go to far wrong either way. The most important thing imop is to stay away from a 6s setup in both cases and go 10s.

Cheers,

Tom C

YEP Tom hit the nail right on the head.
a few things I did with my trex , new rotorworkz frames to fit motor on top and dirrect servo hookups , added torque tube, metal head. went 12s right off the bat. 32-3 with a 17t pinion rocks the house with 620 blades. I also stretch mine now to swing 690s , still expirmenting there when the weather lets me ,
Razor , its not a bad machine , but I bet theres a razor 2 in the works soon. great thing about the razor , endless ratios , bad thing. its a pig! but acts real well with the head thats on there. also I sure wish they would fire the fellow that designed that butt ugly canopy. it looks almost as bad as the rappy V1 30 that looked like a pregnant guppy

Well, that is an ALIGN problem not a Minature aircraft one. Razor uses the same plastic grips that are on Bobby Watts stratus and everyone knows how he flies

Yes MA is a good quality prod,i have a 1years Fury Tampest 3D have no issue, but from what i know an electric use to be run more then 2300-2500,is plastic grip can handle that speed?

bcot,

The max Razor headspeed recommended by MA is 2200 rpm. Very tough grips so I'm sure they are good for a little more. The metal grips are a necessity for the Trex600 imop on anything above 2100 hs. They are a good, and cheap (~$50) option and I always recommend everyone get them.

One of our local guys decked his Stratus (with Tempest 3D head) this weekend. A metal pitch lever arm came off one of the metal Tempest main blade grips. We are still not sure how/why this happpened since the guy is a very good, experienced builder/flyer. In any case, it might be a good idea to double-check yours!

Cheers,

Tom C

Good choice Ed, you'll love the Ion. I love both of mine. Did you get one with the hacker or neu motors double-staged drive or the single-staged drive with actro 32-3 motor?

Cheers and good luck with your new baby,

Tom C
