should I get the basic kit or XES am a T-rex 450 flyer I was thinking to get the 600 but the battery cost is ridiculously expensive, so I did some research and I think Hurricane the one to go , but which one now ??

I would get the XES kit. It has a few nice upgrades in the kit such as FG canopy, carbon blades and CNC head.

I still recommend getting the battery tray upgrade since the stock design is pretty "weak"

Cheers,

If you're a sport flyer on a budget (to many other helis), then the standard package @ $319 is a good deal. I did upgrade to CNC on the elevator servo arm though.

The basic kit is cost effective. However, my heli buddies have experienced some unfortunate problems with the stock set-up (see Finless' review of the 550). We all either have the Z-30 or Gaui 1100kv 1500 motors. The first problem was the stock tail. It does not stand up to the torque of moderate flying. You must switch to at least the the T-rex 600 thrust for safety. The other is the stock head and blade grips. Upon spool up on the bench, my friend's head and grips blew apart sending the blades slicing thru the air!!! He subsequently gave up on it and gave me what parts he had left. I ordered and built the XES version upgraded with T-rex aluminum tail case and gearing, the CF frame stiffeners and Revco gears. This bird is quick and solid. If I were you I would spend the extra bucks and get the XES since you may end up spending it on repairs on the stock kit...See my gallery for pics of my 550.
