e-Zoom, Shogun, Dolphin > zoom 400 protech , is there a tail upgrade ?

hi again to fellow heli flyers.
i have just got a zoom 400 elec but something in the tail breaks from time to time which ofcause when your flying just makes the heli just spin uncontrollably to the ground (i havent sorted the auto on it yet).

i suspect the problem is the tail drive shaft hex which goes into the rotor input gear. i think the carbon hex after a short time just cracks up and then loose the tail rotor..

so what i want to know, is there an upgrade to the tail drive shaft and perhaps also one for a better input gear too ????

i already have the tail upgrade or the tail output gears but my trouble is most probably the hex on the shaft which connects to the input gear

for that size heli...belt driven is the way to go...those gears are very fragile as you have discovered.

Best of luck!

a problem with the upgrade, parts missing or some thing

ok ive left a few photoes to show you the parts in question.
on the front blue alu part boom holder the bearing belt guides dont seem right.

if i use the bigger guides (which look like the right ones, and have skirts both sides ) the edge/skirts always fowls up on the side of the boom holder so the guides dont turn with the belt when it passes.

if i use the smaller bearing belt guides (has only one skirt and is thinner ) and i put the skirt facing the boom holder ( which is not going to hold the belt )then that fowls, but if i put the bearing belt guide the other way up (so the skirt leaves a gap for the belt to go through )it then doesnt fowl but the smaller ones simply arnt large enough to guide the belt.

now what im thinking is the larger ones look right but is some thing missing in the kit i received maybe like the spacers which then would probibly stop the bigger bearings fowling but what do you guys think ???
next problem might be the elevator cradle, have i been given 2 left frames when i ofcause need a left n right frame ???

Hi Jez

I to have just ordered the same belt conversion for a new Zoom frame i am just about to build, although i haven't received mine yet.

From your pictures it looks like you have indeed got two halves of the same hand you need to contact the seller to check.

I will be able to tell you more when i get mine in a couple of days.

It also sounds like you are using the wrong bearings for the belt guide.
I think you are referring to the bearings with the flange on they are not for the belt guides.

The flanges on the actual belt pulley that mounts on the main shaft are what hold the belt in place not the bearings on the belt guide. Those bearings should be the small ones and are only there to push the belt together so it doesn't rub on the inside of the Boom

The flanged bearings should be what the elevator rocker frame pivots on in the frame.

hope this helps

next week i can show you some pics of mine as long as they get the right frame halves in the kit!!

Good luck

Jez

on closer inspection i think you have just assembled one of the frame halves the wrong way round!!

You don't need to have a left and a right hand frame, just rotate one half 180 degrees!!!

I missed that on first look!

hope this helps!!

yer i knowticed i put it the wrong way round after i put thiat on the forum, i was in a hurry i spose, lol

i emailed the shop i got my kit from and they said the kit manufactorer hasnt got every thing quite right yet. the bearing problem i have is because the spacers are missing.

also i knowticed on mine that the belt input wheel is slightly of centre so im not sure how that will efect the belt with coming off ect ..
.
i think also i need to change my heli to ccpm as the elevator cradle and input gear just take up to much roomso the elevator wont be able to move any where near enough..
let me know how you get on with yours .
