My buddy is trying to get hold of some replacement pinions for his new astro brushless piccolo pro cp
He is running 2 by 2 1020 lithium poly's and got 2 flights of 8 minutes and a 3rd of about 5 with ~2-5 minutes between flight from 1(one) charge.

Thanks regards Don

If the pinions are for an Astro the shaft is 1/8 inch not 3.2mm. You won't be able to get 8,9,and 10 tooth since the hole is too big.

Err 3.2mm is as near as makes no odds 1/8th inch, 32DP model car racing pinions are that size bore but dont go down below 11 tooth because the involute (tooth form) becomes so distorted its very noisy, one answer may be to go to 64DP or 48DP the crownwheel would have to be changed as well though.

I was thinking 2.3mm (Hacker) not 3.2 (Astro).
In any case Warren only shows down to 10 tooth for the Astro, did I miss something?

As far as 1/8 inch, or 3.2 mm, they are close enough. In fact Ikarus uses the sizes interchangably. Most brush type car motors, and the ECO and the Voyager EP use the 1/8 inch shafts. A lot of brushless motors use the 5mm shafts

When I had an Ikarus ECO 8, it used metric 48 pitch gears. American inch 48pitch gears do work, but they are less than smooth with a metric spur gear like on the ECO. But, I did use car pinions before, and they do work.

So, now the question you asked: Ikarus makes 10, 11 ,12 tooth and up pinions in metric 48 pitch. They make these in 3.2 mm bore. For 5 mm bore, they don't make the 10 tooth.

The battery and the motor are getting a wee bit warm ~45-50 C .
Even with a 5 minute flight , this is the sole reason for the pinion request. May be that a larger main gear is the option in the interest of noise reduction therefore efficiency increase, Is Warren the best viable option for this also ?

Thanks fellas.

I'd be interested know what wind astro your using, its not the best brushless motor for the CP Piccolos and your input voltage is on the low side.

It is the norm to use the ECO 8 pinions but as pointed out they don't go that low
