Here are just a few. Just do a search with the words "pinch" and "thumbs" and you'll get tons or threads. It's been beeten to death. Popular opinion seem to be pinch is more accurate but it all comes down to what YOU prefer.

Many use both methods, its a personal preference thing. I pinch flying helis and thumbs flying planes. Didn't even realize I was doing it until someone asked me why.

I used to fly thumbs but when I started flying helis and 3DI began pinching for persision and consistancy.

I use the same method Alan Szabo uses,he pinches when doing percision moves and uses his thumbs when giving movements that require a bigger stick movement.

I seem to be hooked on thumbs -- not good, because it looks like pinching is the best method for optimizing the brain~servo connection, at least on cyclic.

Yug (and a couple others who'll remain nameless) pinch between the big toe & the long one next to it. It isn't easy, but it does permit refuelling while flying.

Nope, thats real, I rinsed out the bottle many times over a few days. Then I decided I preferred the taste of nitro I ain't completely bonkers.

Anyhow, me thumbs. Small hands, less joints to manipulate & blah

This is irrevalent. Quique Somenzini, arguable one of the, if not the best precision and 3D airplane pilots in the worl flies thumbs. Mark Leeseberg flies thumbs and is two or three time straight Tuscon Shootout winner. I forget which. He just won again a few weeks ago. They fly thumbs. Tons of others fly pinch. Obviously it is the pilot not the method.

Heli's are just the same. Lots fly pinch or some variation of the above. Bob Johnston flies thumbs and is one of the first thoughts off the top of my head. Tons of the American folks have not seen him fly very much, but I remeber several years back at IRCHA Bob came when he was still flying for Robbe (I flew for them too) and he did a heli seminar. He was specking out a bone stock Hirobo Shuttle and doing inverted autos with it down to about 30 feet high and flipping out and that old little heli was a 30 and did NOT have a driven tail and he did it several times and set it at his feet. Then he went and beat on his Millenium for a while. This was back when no one was doing invered autos with a 60. 90's didn't exist.

Bottom line. Decide which feels best. There is no advantage either way.

I wouldn't call it totally irrelevant.

I do see your point, if someone's watching Szabo of Youngblood fly and thinking that if they switch to the same grip as one of those guys they're going to transform their flying skills, they're nuts.

But, it is a good question, because each style can have slight advantages and for someone new, they can decide how they want to have control, and pick a way and stick with it.

Torkboy and his stick cam vid gave me inspiration not to switch to the pinch method.

Again, awesome flying Jason.

This will justify the pinch method.

he reverses the TR rotation in the middle of a piroflip.

I'm a thumber but have recently adopted a pinch for some crack maneuvers. I cant do it unless I pinch, my thumb slips off.
