I am basically making my own field box as a lot of you have out of a large tool stargage box with wheels. I am purchasing the hobico power panel to mount on the outside of it as well. I have noticed the batteries you all are using is the small hobby type battery that you are using as your power source. I have a brand new lawn mower batter. Slghtly larger than the batteries i see you guys using but won't it work the same???

Yes it will work....the "hobby type" batterys that you referred to..are a gell filled battery. They can be used in any position without the wory of leaking acid all over your precious belongings. You can find these batterys at hobby stores or the local battery store. The are fairly inexpensive and very light.

Ok well i have mounted it in my field box so there is no way that it can fall over or slide around. So this will be fine? And any power panel will still work with this correct. I mean 12v is 12v right?

You'll be fine....just don't tip the field boxover on accident then put it in you car.

Yep, 12v is 12v, and no problems with your power panel. I use a 12v motor cycle size battery at times. The only caution I have with either (wet or gel cell) is to keep them charged. If you let the charge go or fail to charge during the winter, a chemical reaction takes plance when not fully charged that causes the battery life to be cut short. If you need a further explanation, you should find it on batteryuniversity.com. For charging, I use my Triton charger.
