I think you need to build us a slightly bigger heli. Something that can handle 900mm blades, or atleast maybe 800's, at 1600 rpm... and be able to hold enough weight for a big camera mount, and lots of batteries! If you wanted to be fancy, maybe some kind of dual motor system, with smaller actro's like 24-5's, and then if you have a failure, you have a backup motor that can help slow your descent. I'm thinking just size the joker up again, maybe 12, or 14mm shaft, able to hold 15s,8000mah batteries+15lbs payload.

How 'bout a "torque tube" design for the tail instead of a belt? ...just a thought...

To replace using a belt for the cranked tail an angled gearbox could easily be designed. These angled gearboxes already exist. They're mainly used for scale.

Let me just say there are a couple of "things" in the works... I just hope they pan out...

I'd trust a belt more then an angled gear box. Less points of failure. Also I've heard of scale guys doing what they can to avoid putting in an angled gear box.

"Less points of failure"? What's less?

With belt there are still gears on the outside. With TT there will be gears on the inside.

I removed my cranked tail for AP to "lessen the points of failure".

I'd still want the TT though without the cranked tail.

You could use a flexible TT--like in some hand-held weed whackers. The bend would have to be gentle, though, and there would be an energy cost.
