has anyone ever experimented with taking a 30 size nitro machine (Raptor or similar), and put twin 540 sized motors on it? I thought there might be cost advantages to running two cheaper 540 car motors, and ESC's rather than one expensive brushless and expensive ESC. I figured you might then be able to run two seperate 8-10 cell packs as well.

When I was a teen, I used to have a Tamiya Clodbuster monster truck. It ran one 540 motor per axle, and has tons of power. It had a switch to change the motor wiring from parallel to series at one flick (only ran 7 cells though). On one setting you had lots of power, but short run time, and the other setting had lots of run time, but at reduced power.

I thought maybe these same principals could be used on a e-Heli

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Sounds interesting to me.

What about running one speed controller for both motors? This way you would be sure to have the same current running to both motors.

I like the idea of being able to reconfigure your power usage with the flip of a switch.

HMMM, heavy setup though.

Just some thoughts,
