Hello to all
I wanted to know if it were possible to use system VSTABI on the Tempest or if the vibrations on the model and the miscella caused problems.
Nobody has never made this modification, if you could yourselves be mailed of the photos thanks
Sorry for my english.

I looked out for a drawing of the tempest ...

http://www.rchelibase.com/xcell/temp3ddraw.pdf

Is it the right one?

If it is - i think there will be no problem at all. First read the article about the conversion at the vstabi WIKI here:

http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?tit..._of_other_helis

Two things are remarkable:

The heli has - as seen on the drawing above - no travel boost in the push pull levers. That's pretty good! And it has a main head where you can fit long linkage bolts instead of the mixer levers at the blade grip. So you can adjust the throws at the main blades very easily.

To fix the sensor unit to the heli use 3 layers of thick double sided self adhesive tape to avoid vibration input to the gyro elements from the engine. Before first flight, check the vibration level as shown here:

PS: Sorry for my bad english, too ... i am from germany

Have V-stabi on my Stratus. Had to modify the head. Used the metal blade grips with self-made CNC arms.

Sorry for the bad pic. Phone camera....

Have some finetuning to do. Flies great with awesome cyclic power!
Have a little drift in tail down tic-tocs. Not much.
More in ail tic-tocs. Hope the weather will be better this weekend so I can tweak it

Great!

About the tail drift ... check the static mixing collective and cyclic to tail going the right way!

http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?tit...lective_up/down

If the direction is set right, check out the drift direction and increase / decrease the static mixing values aileron=>rudder and elevator=>rudder

http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?title=Menu_rudder

Another thing is the vibration level on nitro helis. Check out with the live menu and use more layers (almost use 3) of double sided tape to fix the sensor unit free from vibrations to the heli.

http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?title=Live

And at last ... check the Tail gyro for right adjustment as described here:
http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?tit..._PID_controller

Thanks for the answer!

I have no tail drift and the compensation of cyclic and pitch is right.

When I do tail down tic-tocs, it moves little to the left. Almost like I have interaction on the aileron.
When I do aileron tic-tocs, it moves little toward me, like I hade some elevator interactions.

I have only one CSM gyro tape on it. Might try with more. 3 as you said.

Any clue what to adjust?

Maybe you have interaction with lead/lag of your blades and/or a not perfect 90° adjustment of the swashplate driver? - Try to compensate it with a little virtual swash rotating, only a few degrees and test out.

Can you try out classic and extended mode? - is it in both modes?

Thanks for the input.

From what I can see, the swashdriver is set perfectly 90 degres to the blades. (blade along the boom and the inner balls of the swash is pointing at the outer balls.

Have not tried in extended mode.

Thanks
Fredrik

OK .... for adjusting swash driver ...

Turn the blades straight into the elevator axis.

Now give a elevator input.

The blades shall NOT move now.

BUT:

Depending on lead or lag the rotation can be a few degrees different to this static adjustment. To find it out, rotate the swash a few degrees (3-7°) and fly out. For example a "real" BO 105 Heli has 78° rotating!

AND:

Try out in classic mode until its solved.

Raptorm@n,

What are the part numbers for the grips you are using? That is exactly what I am looking for for my Ion conversion.

Heliplanet.de,

Will look into that.

THX1138,

122-11 is the blade grip part #
I have done the pitch arm by my self so it would be not delta angel.

How to set the tail torque compensation is described at the WIKI.

http://vstabi.de/wiki/index.php?title=Menu_rudder

Otherwise ... if the tail turns into the rotating direction you need less compensation, if it turns against you need more.

I don't really know if this will be the reason for your problem but it will be very easy for you to figure it out. So try with other values, e.g. use 10 or 20 for aileron or elevator and use 20 or 30 for collective instead of default 15 or 25.

Yepp, the tail torque compensation it set right.

Tried little more yesterday with phasing.
Have almost no interaction now. Had to put a little 'pre-phasing'
The swash driver along the boom, and the blade just a few degrees 'before' the boom if you look from behind of the heli.

Ail tic-tocs is great and Ele tic-tocs has just a tiny tiny bit of ail interaction.
But I haven been able to trim it right due to windy conditions yet. Might bee that to...

Raptorm@n,

I don't want to get too far off topic, but what spindle and bearings are required to use those grips with the stratus head?

Hi Lou,

It fits right on the Stratus headblock. No change of spindle and bearings.

I only ask because the drawing shows spacers in between the bearings in the grips. Could you post a couple more pics of the rotor head from different angels if it is not to much trouble. I am wanting to make my Ion Flybarless using the V-Bar as well so I am doing a little home work if you will.

Thanks,

Lou

That is correct. The bladegrips are from a Tempest head that I have.
Did not assebled them. They just fit right on.

Will take some pics for your this week. Had a minor crash yeterday...
Stripped tailgears and the bevelgear. So when it put togheter again I will shoot some pics for you.

Thank you very much. Did you assemble the grips yourself on the Tempest? I am curious as to hoe they are assembled. I look forward to the pics.
