Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > HELP, wobbly blade grips!!!

hi fellas, is it normal for rappy 30 blade grips to move up and down ? if i hold the tips of the blade i can move them up and down about 2 cm, the only thing i can think of is the main bearings being worn about the inner race.
also could this cause the whole heli to shake when winding down the rotors after flight but does not vibe in flight.
Any thoughts
colin.
P.S. its 2 years old with 3 severe cases of deceleration poisoning. how long should the bearings last?

That much is quite normal. Remember the blades are not "loaded" so you can feel the Thrust bearings and the main bearings moving in the grips.

Normal, but still fixable

The play is typical, but it can be corrected. I removed all the bearings, cleaned the grips with alcohol, then reassembled with a small amount of epoxy between the bearings and the grip. It removed the slop and I feel it is a little more precise in the hover now. I believe this technique is used on other helis also, i.e. Vigor.

I have the same thing and my Rappy is sooo stable, even with a bent flybar and misaligned paddles, out of track blades, probably bent spindle, etc, etc..

GLUE!!! good lord no i could never lower myself to plank technology, joking aside i may give that a go see if it cures the wobbles on shut down. but being as lazy as i am i might save it for the next rebuild as its flying o.k. for now.
Rappytappy i take it you are accepting the loose grips ? i think mine have been like this forever i only noticed it today after a friend totalally wasted his R30 and we went through the parts and his had no play what so ever.
cheers,

I just got back home from flying my Raptor 50 that I just installed the Cyber Heli metal main blade grips on. Whew, nice very nice. Way more stable than before and virtually no slop in them. Best 50.00 I have spent on it!

My motto is this..Fly...Rebuild...Fly

I agree with Rotor

I have the metal grips too and they got rid of all radial and lateral slop in the grips. I had replaced the original grips after a season of flying and found them still rather sloppy after replacement. I was surprised and dissapointed. The heli flew well but I knew with this much slop it could fly better if it could be reduced or eleminated.

After installing the metal grips and dialing it in, the 46 conversion is flying almost as stable as my Raptor 60.

50 bucks well spent!

COL - Nadine I reckon

Hi Colin, I'm guessing its you anyways, you are the unlucky third place trophy holder in the the 2000 UK masters aren't you ????? (Whio should have won it)

Its Lee, one of the guys who flys up at Stanway, the last time we met I dumped my 30 due to a tr servo failure.

I hope its you anyway.

There has been a few fixes suggested for the wobbly blade grip syndrome. One guy put a thin coat of CA in the actual blade grip itself and then sprinkled baking powder to build it up therefore holding the bearing tighter another one wrapped a few turns of electrical tape around the alloy feathering spindle bush which sits just inside the end of the blade grip and opacked it out so its sits in the end of the grip quite tightly, I tried this and it has worked very well. It has reduced the up down movement quite dramatically.

The only final soution is by getting a set of metal blade grips which are solid but again a bit costly for a practise machine.

Hows the SE going and more importantly hows the hand !!!!! Are you back flying again...............you know Dirk likes to gossip.!!

Geez...after all this I hope its the right bloke AAC right.

See ya

the hand is much better now thanks was off flying for about 3 months alltogether ( big and little ). the SE is stonkin but a little bit intimidateing i just need to crash it and prove to myself it will survive (hope not though). dirk says you are now heli god !! don't go to the dark side with those old man scale jobbys though cos ive got a full bag of banter and im not afraid to use it.
we should meet up for a fly one day , gets a bit dull stood on your own somtimes, not many heli fliers around here
