The best option is to buy a Jetcopter SX from Vario. Assemble it and go fly.

If thats too expensive then, buy a book called The Model Turbo Prop Engine by Kurt Schreckling from Traplet publications and use that as a basis to drive the main gear.

Read it, understand it, start building it, and then go and buy a Jetcopter SX from Vario.

I would imagine the two words that don't go together here are "cheap" and "turbine"

If money is an issue, I don't think a turbine would be in the near future. Of course there are many very talented people who could come up with something new, and hopefully less expensive.

educate me on this AMA approval thing do I have to get some licences or something to operate a turbine powered machine

I dont belong to a club and dont plan on joining either, I fly my heli in the fields far from the city. Do I still need any approvals or licences

BTW I am in Canada

AMA Waiver

Hi,

The AMA waiver is for flying a turbine helicopter at an AMA insured field. Doesn't sound like your doing that now.

There's also the Hotcat that I got an opportunity to look at up close side by side with the JetCat. It's more expensive, but I like the layout better. It sits on a base plate which the landing gear attach to. I would think that a hard set down would cost you less compared to the vario version.

Cheapest route seems to be the Vario so far. Rumor has it that Thunder Tiger is working on something for next year, but then again rumor's aren't reliable.

You can buy "U-Build" Turbine kits from Wren in the UK, where the complex machining is pre-done. This gets the cost of the Turbine down from approximately £1400UK to £800UK leaving you to build / buy /modify suitable heli bits.

Not cheap, but less expensive
