Hello All!
Before reeading this post please read my earlier post above to understand the rest.

Since my throttle problem (bad hummingbaord or receiver?) on Friday I decided to do some tests while waiting for my replacement blades to come from century. The heli continued to act irratict in that it would go full throttle without any input from the transmitter. Scary & Dangerous to say the least! I noticed that when this occurred the LED on the hummingboard would go from solid green to red. I assumed that this part must be defective since everything else (servos) seemed uneffected. Monday I called tech support and spoke to Dennis. I told him the whole story and at which point he reccommended I call back Tuesday and speak with Andrew since he was their top "electrical" tech. Tuesday I called and spoke to Andrew who's cavalier attitude to say the least was not appreciated. It's not so much that he was rude because he really wasn't it just seemed that he felt the problem was my fault and assumed that I had no prior heli experience. God it made me feel like I was a teenager again!! After assuring him that I did in fact have some heli experience I requested that if the board was found to be defective that the replacement blades be credited to my credit card account or that an additional set be sent NC. After all why should I have to pay for a part that was damaged due to a defect in their product. I didn't feel that this was an unreasonable request since the cost is only $14.99. Andrew told me that that was not Century's policy.,,,,,,,,OK......Build good customer relations and make an exception? Then I also stated that since I paid to have the heli shipped overnight that I would ship it back the same way and would request they do the same when the repair was finished. The best they would do is UPS 3-day. Andrew also let me know that if the problem was the receiver it would take a while to replace since they are completely out of 4chnl rx's. I check with Andrew today to make sure they got my return and he told me he had just gotten in (3:00pmPST) and was busy filling backorders. He said he would check to see if it came in and get back to me. 8:20pm EST Andrew called to say they never received the package. FedEx shows the package sceduled for a 3:00 delivery today.......So I'm not sure what happened there, FedEx may have screwed up...I'll deal with them later!! I'll wrap this up by saying that I was orgionally going to buy the FEDA from Hong Kong but decided not to in fear of exactly what I'm going through now. With the money I've spent on the initial purchase and the new blades and return shipping I could have purchased a Piccolo Pro and had it a month ago!!! I hope Century makes this right.....I own my own busines and taking care of customer complaints about defects get handled before all other orders if for nothing else to do dammage control and build a repeat clientel base.
Sorry for the long post but I had to vent somewhere.
I'll keep you all posted.
Regards,
Anthony

I crash it all the time. yes it is a little bird and it is amazingly tuff for how small it is. I would guess that I have crashed it into things probibly ten times already. It simply bounces right back into shape.
I have busted a tail rotor, earlier today. The only real delicate part is a little carbon peg that sticks down off the tail boom and protects the tail blades from hitting the ground, that was the first thing to go. I added a small mod. and have had no more problems with it.
You should keep a small bottle of ca handy and you could fix it in no time. Be sure to check the small phillups screws that hold the tail otor to the boom they ae the size of eye glass screw and I HAD MINE FALL OFF(loss of tail rotor) on the third flight. Be sure to loctight these in and forget about them.
All told, sum it up...........Lots of fun, cheap easy to build and fly, after getting used to the slight delay. I would strongly recomend this to anyone, except a beginner.

Hi there,

After reading all the posts, I decided to go with the FEDA (called minidragon fly) in Singapore, cheaper then Century in the States.
Got it in a week from http://www.singahobby.com (I live in France) with great quality components & nice service.

On top of it, it flies great, but of course I'm absolutely a new guy to Helicopters. You'll not believe what it can take and how sturdy it is....The only thing that seems to dismantle is the undercarriage.

Cheers, cpg75

Hello All,
In a brief follow up to my post yesterday, FedEx did screw up and delivered my HB back to century today. Andrew quickly took to trouble shooting the problem (without any phone calls from me) He then called me to let me know that he felt the problem was present only when the TX transmitter antena was closed. He stated that the heli flew perfectly and hovered well. He recomended that I always extend the antena fully before even powering up the HB. He is shipping it back to me today via UPS 3-Day as he promised and I should have it on Tuesday 3-4-03. Andrew was very helpful once he received the heli to look at. I can only assume that the other day he had been bombarded with tech calls and was a tad fustrated. Understandably...we all get there sometimes. As a wrap I'm satisfied with the tech support at Century but will wait to run the flag up the flagpole until I get the HB back Tuesday. I'll keep you all posted. FYI there is now an addendum on Century's site regarding some common issues with the hummingbird. Check them out before calling tech support it may save you some time!

Regards,
Anthony

Hummingbird IS AWESOME!!!

So I have been flying this for a few days now and I am impressed. I found a cool review with pictures at www.nwhobbies.com. From the time I took it out ofthe box I was flying in 20 minutes. All I can say is if your looking for a goody heli and want one at a good price, this is a great heli to go with. I have crashed this thing hard and nothing has broken yet. It flys great and with a couple of extra battery pack I can pretty much fly nonstop... only to let the motor cool a bit. Good luck

No pics yet, but when it arrives on tuesday I'll take some and post them. I did put a micro antena on her and placed my ecetronics somewhat differently then the instructions. The JR receiver was too big to mount the way the instructions say....you'll see what I did with the pics. My next project over the weekend is building a case(nest) for her and the TX. I'll post some pics of that too!!

I received my Hummingbird Feb. 25, waited for a long time since I made the order Dec. 28, 2002. I opened the box and was surprised that it was almost complete, I never realized how tiny it was from looking at the Century Webpage. I immediately removed the GWS receiver and PIco servos from my Wattage Pico Stick. Installed the servos using the supplied double adhesive tape, plugged all wires into their respective places, installed the Control Board mixer, Battery and the GWS PG-03 Gyro and was finished in less than 1-hr. First, I unplugged the main motor from the control board and powered up the heli for the first time to center the servos and test the gyro and tail rotor directions.
A few buttons pushed from my Airtronics RD6000 and realigning the servo arms 90 deg, made sure that the Gyro was working, what more could I do? but plug in the main motor and test her..

Everything worked the first time, very smooth hover, and yes she flys.

Mods.. I found that the Double adhesive tape was a little bit thick and will result in the servos moving about, I since replaced them with a thinner kind made of soft black rubber base material and also put double adhesive tape on the top portion of the servo where it makes contact with the stopper, result was a very rigid servo.

Battery Charger... Im using the new Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKII.
It will charge your 650mAh pack the first time in less than 20min at 800mA current. First few flights will be short but consequently get longer as the battery is used.

Overall...It was a sweet long wait..I was not disappointed with the performance of the HUMMINGBIRD. On smooth concrete surfaces I found that the helicopter will just slide and not topple over in the event of a hard landing...even w/out a training gear.

The new Hummingbird is Great...
However, in some cases the bearings are a bit rusty... so you might want to upgrade to precision bearings...

Also, loose the shaft spacer, it just binds the Swashplate and put a CNC shaft collar ...

Always glad to help,

Li-Poly batteries in HB 15 minutes flight

I just put some 1020 mah li-poly batteries in my new HB and MAN.... I am getting about 15 miutes and more flight time and its 3 oz lighter that than the nimh....... This is great, I also upgraded the motor to a speed 300 with a mpjet 11 tooth pinnion and that makes all the difference in the world. I have a little hight head speed at lower throttle, and it flies much smother....any question let me know.
