Hello, I was pondering the Hornet X-3D for my next Heli. I have many 11.1 volt 1350 mega power li-po's that weigh approx.4 oz. Would these batteries be to heavy for the little guy ? I am assuming a heli of this size would be very sensitive to CG variables !

Mega Power 1350mAH 11.1V 3S 15C Li-PO Battery 110g
ThunderPower 1320mAh 11.1v Prolite 17A/26A burst 85g pack
ThunderPower 910mAh 11.1v Prolite 14.5A/22A burst 65gb pack

The 3xTP1320 packs balance the centre of gravity for the stock X-3D, 3xTP910 packs are a little too light leaving the heli a bit tail heavy. The heli will fly with a 110g pack but the final weight will ~390g and feel quite heavy but should sport acro and loop just fine, 3D moves will be impacted especially after a few mins when the voltage begins to fade. Thunder Power Prolites will out perform and live longer than all of today's other competition cells in this application, or until the next generation comes along.

Thanks for the great info Darkhorse, you seem to be the Hornet expert around here. Does the Eflite Blade CP pro compare at all in performance to the X-3D, I only ask because spare parts seem to be everywhere !

That's because I've never mastered the dam thing! LOL and I like to buy a new heli once I can say I've out flown the current one, which has never been true with the Hornet, so I'm stuck on them .

In my opinion the stock X-3D built correctly with the standard recommended electronics and with the correct Tx numbers dialled in, fly's and performs way better than the stock CP2/BladeCP stuff. It's not a fair comparison, especially given the motorised tail differences but an X-3D fly's like you only wish your stock CP2/BladeCP ever could . You'd be better off with a 600mm ~500g KingV2, at least it has a CP tail even if it is a bit soft at low RPM. Though the Hornet's initial electronics cost more and it is more fragile, more agile and less stable. If you can fly confidently then give it a whirl otherwise the Hornet can frustrate. After hovering and mild FF those other micro's don't compare unless you dump cash into 2 brushless ESCs and motors (one for the tail) plus the effort to tune such a setup (which isn't easy) and even then I think the X-3D is a better package in the air as stock.

Just depends what you want in a micro... they all have their little niggles.

Funny you say that , I do have a Honey bee King 2 and I love the Heli, I can roll it,flip it and hover inverted but some of the videos I have seen of the Hornet 2 and X-3D are incredible-- extremely tight rolls and flips in a very small area. I was thinking ahead for the winter and maybe flying in a gymnasium or something.
