Not necessarily - Neutral stick/output (0% L/R Rudder) shouldn't run the motor or give the gyro reason to either - However mine does run slightly with my GY401 for some reason - But certainly not enough to rotate the heli on me -
In throttle-hold my tail doesn't run at all though unless I give like full right rudder

No.

With Throttle Hold ON, the tail is held in the "full left" position.

With Throttle Hold OFF, the tail is allowed to function normally - ie. controlled by the HH Gyro.

(and the HH gyro will see the same zero position as the ESC)

I think the G90 has it's own stored neutral position which is why you can hold full left rudder while it initiates - My GY401 I have to power up with throttle-hold off and wait for the gyro to calibrate it's neutral position to the signal it's receiving then switch on throttle-hold to arm the ESC afterwards - Otherwise the gyro's neutral position would be 100% left rudder instead of 0% rudder

Try this one:
Code

[PROG.MIX2]
AUX2-> RUDD
RATE: +125%
0%
SW:HOLD
OFFSET:-125

Because we have "hijacked" AUX2 for the Flight Mode switch:
it stays in the -125 position for Norm, 0 for Flight-1, and +125 for Flight-2.

The tail will not function unless the Flight Mode is in Flight-2 and you move the tail stick to the right of center...

I have only trialed this with a brief hover, so I do not know if it affects normal flight at all. It shouldn't...

That's interesting - It give you the choice of killing the tail with the main or not Having the AUX2 switch in the 1 position would allow you shoot autos because throttle-hold would only kill the main motor and not the tail - But with the AUX2 switch in the 0 position throttle-hold kills both main and tail

I was using +100%/-100 instead of +125%/-125 when I discovered this
Code
[PROG.MIX2]
AUX2-> RUDD
RATE: +100%
0%
SW: HOLD
OFFSET:-100

BTW You must have your AUX2 assigned to the Flight Mode switch because my FM switch doesn't change anything - Just my AUX2 & TH switches do

It was helpful going through the explanation, and getting your feedback - I learned a lot about the function of the DX7.

The DX7 manual gives basic info, but not the background or really how to use the features.

Check this out with AUX2 assigned to the AUX2 switch
Code
[PROG.MIX2]
AUX2-> RUDD
RATE: +50%
0%
SW: HOLD
OFFSET:-100

This puts the rudder to 100% Left for arming/disabling in throttle hold and doesn't let it go past 0% so it shouldn't give any right rudder to activate the tail motor (gyro might though) - Other mix values were moving the rudder to 125% left and I don't know if it makes a difference arming at 100% vs. 125% - If it doesn't make any difference then +125%/-125 would be better because it stays at 125% left no matter what

What are you using to set your Idle Up flight mode?

More specific?

I don't use flight modes to change anything other than throttle and pitch curves
I spool up in NORM and fly in ST-2
Gyro is assigned to the GEAR switch
Never had any use for AUX2 so always left it assigned to it's own switch

Perhaps the better question is: "Why do I have [INPUT SELECT] mapping Aux2 to F.Mod...?

I'm not sure why I do...

Yeah I was wondering that too - Running in governor mode or something?

The only reason I can think of is that it is in the manual...
(without a good reason why to set it)

As I re-read the manual, this option gives the ability to have 3 positions on Aux2 Rx output (controlled by the FLT MODE switch), instead of the default 2 positions (controlled by the AUX 2 switch).

Looking at my AR6100 Rx, there is no AUX 2 output (only 6 channel), so obviously has no impact at all to the function of my DX7 / BCPx...

Must be used for something on a larger, more complicated heli...???

So now, I can modify my settings to trial what you have just posted!

Tried governor mode on a Phoenix 10 controller - could not get it to work easily, and determined it was not worth the effort (at least at this time & my current flying skills).

I doubt I will ever be doing Tic-Tocs with my BCPx.

Yeah I have an ESC that operates normally via the stick on the throttle channel or in governor mode via a switch on an auxiliary channel - It could be done using an AR7000 RX but I never tried it - Sounded rather dumb to me

I just run a straight 100% throttle curve in ST-2 - That's my kinda gov mode
Tic-Tocs aren't exactly crispy but I can do 'em pirouetting to make 'em look cooler

This is great stuff guys...thanks! I set it up like your mentioning and it does work quite well. Just a little tail motor spin but like said, not enough to move the heli.

I just took it out back for a quick battery and it flew as it normally does. When I landed, the tail motor rested with the throttle down as well. I use a GY240 so it would act allot like the 401 in some respects.

On the JR6102, the throttle hold is not a programmable switch, it is assigned to a button just above the right cyclic stick. I'm going through the instructions again now to see if I can move it to someplace I can get to it and still have cyclic control....but I don't do Autos with my blade cp so its not a big deal.

thanks again for sharing.

The button should be for the throttle-cut feature which lowers the throttle trim - Throttle-hold will be on a switch and is probably inhibited if you've never used it before

The 6102 online manual shows throttle-hold instruction on page 71
(lame manual btw - I thought the dx7 manual was sparse and obscure until now)
Active the throttle-hold feature and assign it to the upper right switch (flap?) if you can

I don't know how lowering the throttle is effecting the tail as you say - The mixes we've been posting should only pretty much disable the tail completely upon activation via a switch

I've tried but was never able to make a mix to work with the throttle like the
3-in-1 does (I'm actually not real savvy on mixing)

Thank from here too guys. There's alot of good info in here. It will take some time go through it all. I must agree the 6102 Manual is kinda crappy. I guess I should have gotten a Dx7 instead. I'll keep messing with it. Now here is something that I want to mention. I have an auto rotation gear that I use from time to time, and have done some pretty good autos with the blade, and it is nice having that full rudder control when the main is coasting. That is the only thing that I can see wrong with putting the full left command in with throttle hold. I just got a GY401,and can't wait to set it up, but was wondering what do I set the limits to? I have another one my T-rex and that was obvious since it is connected to a servo.

flying is simple, electronics is hard

You know I've never messed with the GY401 limit on motored tails either - With servos it likes to be around 100 and that's where I left it when I moved it from my H2 to my BCP
