e-MS Composit Hornet > questions: main gear and pinon - main gear teeth # - head speed

What pinions are being used with this heli? The gear pitch looks to be more fine than the main gear of the common BCP.

Also, how many teeth are on the stock main gear of the 3DX?

What head speeds are people pushing on these also?

Helicopters - 1000 parts flying in formation.

The Hornet X-3D main gear is 180T (64p/mod0.4), BCP is 140T 48p/mod0.5. The X-3D stock recommended setup uses a 1820Kv 2208/20 (or rebade) Axi outrunner with a 25T pinion to give a compromise between performance and duration. Initially 25T is fine (~2.5Krpm nominal, 2.8Krpm fresh) but for popping harder 3D moves you might want to try a 27T (for 2.7Krpm nominal, 3.0Krpm fresh charge).
What ever you run, use light good quality electrics to keep the heli as light weight 365g or better. Go much over 365g and you'll spoil the principles of this heli. The Ali head and grips are useful otherwise plastic/carbon composite is fine for such a heli.

Note: Ah, new kits have been shipped with cheaper TE480 GF skinny flexible blades, I've not seen or heard anyone do 3D/acro moves with them yet. The old ridged E489 weighted CFs are the standard set before price drop deals started.

Check my X-3D tips page, there's a link to my calculator to play around with and a link to lots of pinion suppliers.
