I use 5S A123 batteries on a Tower Hobbies 180 size starter and even use it to start a 33cc gas airplane engine.

check out http://www.afineredgemfg.com/ for a lipo adapter, for using Makita lipos.

WHole thing is pricey, unless you have two starters like me, then you can just swap the battery pack between starters.

I been using 2 3s 1500 18c packs in parrallel and everyone at the field uses it on sundays. It usually starts 3 600's, a 70, and a 90 3-5 times each sunday and I charger once a month and put back about 3-500mAh per battery

I went a little different route. I used a 12V 3.0 Ah Gel cell with a homemade plexiglass mount. Works quite well. Cost $32.00 total.

I have a hobbico 7ah SLA battery zip tied to the bottom of my charger. Cheap but effective.

I use (2) 3s 11.1v 1500mAh 15C lipos from my planes and I charge it once a month and put back about 6-700mAh per pack. And I use it to start a couple 600N's, Raptor60/90 on sundays. SO let's say I have about 5-8 starts/sunday times 4 sundays. Works great!!
