e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Alternative motor for Stock ESC

Any suggestions for alternate motors on 6s while keeping the stock esc?

I also have a mega 22/30/2 as well as 22/30/3. Would any of these be usable without changing the esc?

Would appreciate pinion size recommendations as well.

Cheers

I am using the new motor Ready heli introduced, the h18/ 1000w 1100kv.
this motor is perfect for the Hurricane. it will outperform a raptor 50 with the evo2500 20c 3s packs. I currently am using the stock gearing and stock esc. and I get 4 minutes of fairly hard flying. I believe this motor will be perfect with a 13t pinion, but 14 is as small as Gaui offers so i will be changing to the revco gears this week and hopefully find the equivilant to the 13t. this should still give plenty of head speed and slightly longer flight times. But as is with the 14t I could not be happier with this heli. it rolls and fips as good as a trex600, climbouts are a little better on the 600, the 600 stays a little more consistant with head speed, but with a 13t pinion I think they will be much more closely matched

are you using the stock esc? If you don't mind spending the time, could you post your entire setup, what servos, and do you have the low end kit or the high end with the metal head? I'm planning on buying one, I have the money but I'm so confused on what to get. I've flown a friends heli that is the base model, with the metal flybar frame and it flies really well, he says the base model is fine and don't waste the money on the metal stuff, especailly since I have a Trex 600 and will use the hurricane for practice 3D mainly. He's running analog servos and all to keep it cheap, just wondering what you guys are using. I know the stock motor is junk though.

I am flying the "junk" kit, fully stock, 3004's on the cyclic and 240 gyro.Using United hobby 2500 lipos for 8 mins of flying. Only thing is that I am having a problem trimming the heli, seems like the trim shifts all the time.

mine started as bone stock, except carbon RCP500 blades and shortened the boom. then I upgraded to the new ready heli motor last week, the h/18 1000w, with this I also uprgaded to the metal grips. I am running the 401 /9253, and just some junk jr 537 std servo's I had laying around. it acctually flies very very well with the cheap servo's, trim is dead on, it fies very very smooth. Personally I would get this same setup again. I really like the stock 50 amp esc and BEc with seperate rx pack works well also. If I were doing it again I might buy the kit with out motor and esc and go right for the h/18 and find a used Align 75 amp esc for $50. but the kit price with stock motor is hard to beat even if you don't use the stock motor.
also buy the short tail belt when you order the kit, then just cut off your boom to fit. or some of the kits I think now come with the short boom. I like the seperate rx pack, and on off switch! it flies like a much bigger heli then it is. I acctually sold my 50 nitro!

RCM H18 1100KV

I got the Ready Heli 1100 KV motor and the 13t pinion and WOW what a difference! I'm trying the Kong Power batteries, and also running the flightpower 2170 25C, both are doing well and up to 5 min flight time doing mild 3D, I got the RCM 500 mm carbon blades and head speed is up to 2600 or so, man, I love this heli, my Trex 600 is a closet queen with one battery and an hour until it's charged, I fly the Hurricane 4 times as much! Thanks guys for all the help getting the setup and steering me to this one, I love it!

Where did you get a 13t pinion?

The base kit is fine, but metal grips are always a good upgrade. You also want to put the CNC elevator bellcrank on. The stock one has been known to break. The CNC Pitch and Roll arms are nice, but not required. The CNC Elevator link also removes the need to either drill new holes or use certain servo arms setups due to the bellcrank holes being offset. The CNC Swash Stabilizer (antirotation bracket) is also a nice addition. The rest of the CNC parts, while nice are not required.

Buy a pack or two of Raptor ball links and at a minimum use a Raptor link as one of the two for every pushrod, the Gaui links are short and you will not have enough threads.

Get some 2-56 all thread, cut two pieces about 16mm long and use two Gaui links (leftover from using Rapotr links) on each to replace the short flybar to mixing arm links so you can a) adjust them and b) have both ends snap on the correct direction.

All that said, I bought a base kit, and before I built it, I ended up buying the CNC head and CF frame.

13T pinon was bought at Ready Heli, Part #901301 for $5.95. I like the CNC grips, they look good too, I'm not to the point of really knocking the heli around like szabo style, but I do intend to someday! all agreed, it's a great heli at a great price! I think I got a newer kit because my ball links are longer than the guys that have version 1 with the 850kv motor. I may upgrade anyway. Do all raptor links fit the Gaui? Wish you guys were around Texas, weather is perfect down here lately.

72CHVY,

How do you get 2600 headspeed out of your set up? I have an identical setup: 550 XES, RCP 500 blades, H/18 motor, 13 tooth pinion, FP3200 30C packs and TP2200 Ex V2 packs. I have been taking quite a bit of data with my flight recorder. The headspeed at 95, 92, 85, 92, 95 (ID1) throttle curve is is about 1850 rpm.
At 100% across on ID2, the headspeed is a tag below 2000 rpm.

On the average, my set up draws about 400 mA/minute flying around and doing mild 3D.

Attached it the plots of the flights I took. The first graph, because I need to hook up 2 sensors to the motor wirings, the headspeed showed twice as much (ID1), the second was for 100% across (ID2)

Thanks. I was thinking going to the middle motor myself.

And yes, all Raptor links fit. The other link that is nice is the Rocket City link, if you can find any. Ron Lund used to have some, if they are back open.

I found the combo of one Raptor and one Gaui link to work well. The Rocket City are nice in that they are not directional, so you can adjust by half turns.

Don't have a flight recorder, just a cheap optical tach which is a bit fuzzy, jumps around a bit and we just guestamte the middle figure, I'll have to count the teeth on the driven gear, but that should be 42 teeth or so, I do know I received a version 2 kit, it had the upgrade 980kv motor in it. I run idle up at 100%. that's one thing I hate is the links have to go a full turn, I'll check those other ones out. There's not a lot of room to adjust with all the solid links in that setup but it does work. WAAAASSSSUP Sammy64!
