Well I've been meaning to post pics of the mod I did to the canopy clip to prevent cracks to the finish that may occur when forcing the canopy over the studs.

Please note: This was a 30 plus minute mod, so you be the judge if there is a return on your investment.
I'm a type A so even if took 3 days and a baby I wouldn't sleep until it was to my liking.

I haven't tried it but I was thinking about gluing a dubro airplane hinge from the existing canopy clip to the canopy. I don't really know if it would be very useful, but it sure would be cool to flip the canopy forward like a corvette hood.

I can not attest to it's durability in with hardcore 3d but I can say that it's held up after 4 gallons of moderate sport flying to mild 3d. I used a redundant velcro strap through the canopy botton on the first gallon and took it off there after.

I found outward force on the canopy/grommets was relieved because of not having to bend the canopy down over the studs.

Just some food for thought.

vteknical: I think I'm going to try your mod. I recently maidened my 600 and already there is a slight crack on the bottom of the canopy. I also found that the little shiny aluminum blocks where the front lg struts attach to can dig into the canopy if you aren't careful. I think I'm going to cut some fuel tubing and just shoe goo them on the canopy.

Thanks for the tip!

Nice idea.

Another idea would be to grind the lip off the clip, drill a hole through the clip into the bottom of the gear strut and use a thumbscrew to hold it on.

No offense Bruce, do it if you want, don't do it if you don't want to.

Jason is awesome, no doubt, but I'm sure he has a few canopies, don't you think? I bet he gets them pretty cheap too! As with any prudent business man, I don't think I've ever heard him say anything bad about Align's design.

I for one did crack my canopy the first day I maidened my 600! It's not cracked a lot, but I know that w/out some sort of strengthening of the area, it's going to crack a lot more. And I used your excellent method of taking it on and off.

just another opinion...

Yeah you tell em Bruce! I asked the chinese workers down at the Thunder Tiger manufacturing plant if it was OK for me to put a Kasama head on my Raptor 50. They gave me their blessing and all is well. Now I gotta ask em if it's ok for me to use non-stock decals on the canopy. I hope I get their blessing on this one also.

In the stock form my canopy required 3x more force to slide over the studs than most I felt prior to mine.

To me it seemed like a slight oversight in design when a 7-10 degree angle would of made it perfect fit.

I can't imagine Jason or for that matter any designer looking back at an original design sfter almost a year saying it's still perfect.
