e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Awesome Feigao Brushless Setup - Main & Tail

Location: Nobleton, Ontario - Canada

I recently upgraded a 2nd Blade CP Pro to all brushless using:

Main:
  • Feigao 1308422S Brushless Motor 22 Turn, 2.0mm Shaft, 10A, 4255 RPM/V
  • Castle Creations Thunderbird-9 Brushless Speed Controller (TB-9)
  • 8 tooth pinion
Tail:
  • Feigao 1208436L 12x30mm Brushless Motor
  • Castle Creations Thunderbird-9 Brushless Speed Controller (TB-9)
  • 3020 press-on prop - likely going to increase this to a 4530
Battery:
  • Thunder Power 1320 3S 13C Pro Lite - need a little more power (Cs) than the stock battery
Performance is excellent! I would recommend this setup to anyone...

I will post head speed comparison to stock and E-Flite Park 370 next week.

Welcome to the full BL club - I love the performance of BLBCPP

That looks like a very economical way to go - Alternatives could be that much just for the main

I think the Feigao runs warm enough on the 3020 and the 4530 would run even warmer - My Medusa seems to run much cooler than the Feigao and I'm still sticking with the 3020 as I'm just not blowing it out - It performs great

It should seem like a whole different class heli to you now

After you get used to the 8t BL power you might bump up to a 9t or 10t pinion for snappier performance

Congrats on the big hop-up

Could not be happier with my BL setup.

It's the same as Micro's with the exception of the tail motor and batt's. Running Ammo *correction*4110 12X30 and Common Sense RC 1250 lipo's(they have a website). Quiet, insane power. Outstanding. Worth every penny. Consistant since I dialed in my DX7 a couple off months ago.

Dear God, please let it set down just as it took off. Amen.

Forgot.

G90 is the only weak link on my BCPP(I've posted as to why before). Hope to try the GY401 within the next month.

Dear God, please let it set down just as it took off. Amen.

Micro-Maniac:

I use a 4530 on my first BL CPP...

Although the 3020 on my second BL CPP holds fine, it doesn't seem to respond as fast as the 4530 - but as you note, the temperature is a little warmer with the 4530.

I'll post tail temperatures when I post head-speed...

I too must hop on the all brushless bandwagon. That and a good gyro make the little blade an outstanding heli. the start up and shutdown are a bit of a pain with having to have full left rudder while trying to unplug the battery. A word of advice though, stick with pressing on the 3020 and keeping the tail motor on the left side so the prop pushes toward the motor. I was using the prop adapter and crashed, bending the feigao's little shaft. I got it close to straight again but not perfect.

flying is simple, electronics is hard

I have crashed with the prop adapter as well (many times ), bent the adapter several times but never bent the feigao shaft...

I recently crashed with the 3020 pressed on. Totally sheared the blades back to the "hub"! If it had been my model with the adapter, it probably would have bent the adapter that time...

I may change out the adapter on my first model and go to press on. It seems easier. Just need to get a press on prop that I like.

TUTELAR

THANKS FOR THE PAPER CLIP (JESUS PIN) TIP. I'M USING IT ON BOTH BLADES. HOW ABOUT A PHOTO OF THAT TAIL ON THIS SET-UP? THIS MIGHT BE MY NEXT MOVE. THANKS FOR THE INFO!

There's a couple pics of how I did mine in my own BL tail thread

But pics of tutelar-rc's would be nice too

just added brushless tail, but ...

After frying a second DD brushed motor, I decided to try Brushless. Used the recommended 3x2 push-on and it still seemed too weak. Went back to the 4.5x3 and it held a lot better. I had been running a GWS speed controller with 100% gain. Now using a TB9 and had to turn the gain down to 65% due to wag. It seems a lot better, but not as solid as my previous brushed setup. So now I am wondering, what is everyones setup on the TX for their brushless tails. Also, I am using a G90, Dx-7 and no revo mix. Travel is set to 125% for rudder (but I don't think that does anything). Main is the Eflite 4100 Kv brushless.

On hard collective, it seems to over compensate and wag a bit. I didn;t see this with the brushed. Any input would be great!

Thanks

My DX7 setup for brushless tail:
[TRAVEL ADJUST]
RUDD L 100%
R 100%

[GYRO SENS]
AUTO
RATE
0: 86%
1: 86%
F.MODE
NORM:0
STNT:1

Both BL models have the same setup. 4530 adapter and 4040 push-on --> no wag and holds very well on hard punch out (hover to full collective) = less than 1/2" movement in tail.

See a new post with description of models, and pics of noses and tails...

I use the gear travel adjust for gyro gain instead of the gyro sense function which my G90 seemed to like a value of 60% with the rudder travels at 100%

I ordered tutelar-rc set-up today, before I read this about the Castle Creations Thunderbird-9 Brushless Speed Controller (TB-9)
The description states: (A lower-cost alternative to the Phoenix-10 without as many configurable features. For airplane use only - the Thunderbird-9 does not support helicopter use. Features automatic Li-Poly cell detection right out of the package - automatically adjusts cut-off voltage to match 2S or 3S Li-Poly packs.)

Any issues?

None - Works flawless right out of the package - I only disconnected the BEC wire and flew it

BTW Both CC and Feigao have 6A ESCs now too

The CC TB9 is also programmable using the Castle Link software...

No problems on either the main or tail - I am flying 10 minute flights (some loops and rolls). TB9 says to have some airflow over it for high current use. That is why I have the main ESC mounted behind the rear servo.
