Woww, what an explosion Electrics are becoming now! i saw the piccolo pro do the same thing my fury extreme does with no exhaust to get in your eyes,no money spent on fuel, and can fly it in my 8 by 8 room upside down and it proved it can fly longer on Li ploy cells for a 1/3 of total cost of a glow heli! Nothing i repeat nothing can beat that! 25 bucs a gallon for glow fuel thats a thing of the past now! Fuel companies better watch out theres a new market and its not the one your in! Six cases of fuel and you could have a heli that you can fly forever and makes no noise too! Add a power source from etronics and fly all day long and never ever worry about batteries. to me this just seems like an ultimate high to fly whenever, whereever inside or out, and for as long as your heart desires. Im sold on Ehelis! Heres an excellent power source adjustable voltage too,

"no money spent on fuel"
And no money spent on electricity? I wonder how much more electricity it takes up, and if it actually saves you money as opposed to nitro..

25 bux a gallon? ouch. i get it for $14-16 bux a gallon and some people might get it a lot cheaper around here...

These new-battery e-helis are cool, but the noise, sight (smoke), and smell of nitro are cool too...

Hes talking about 30 % fuel. Also, with a 60 size heli, you.....at least i do. i only can get 6 tanks out of a gallon of fuel

I dont thinl you will notice your electric bill go up just because you get yourself an electric heli. Charging them batteries is pretty cheap.

Yes it is if you charge them from your car. Your electric bill goes up zero.

My electric bill has not gone one penny since I got my hornet. Mainly because I use the battery in my van to charge my batteries.

I do think the electrics are amazing, but have not had as much luck as some other have been having with them. My hornet amazes me every time I fly it, but it is harder to fly than my Raptor!! I cannot speak for a Piccalo, but I hear good things about them. I will stick to the hornet though. I just love being able to fly in my livingroom!!!

Free energy?

While I'm a major fan of electric aircraft there's one thing I know for sure - there's no such thing as free energy. If you charge cells from the battery in your car\van then that drains the battery and the alternator in your car uses energy generated from the petrol/diesel to recharge the battery. So I guess you guys are I/C flyers after all!!

The only FREE energy I know of is when I jump out my electric meter on my house ........

Wright Flyer that is correct but if I do not start the car/van in tell I am ready to leave then the petrol/disel in the car/van is getting used also to go home. I would have bone that anyway.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

Electricity costs less than 10 cents per KILOWATT. A 20 cell electric heli uses less than 1 KILOWATT.

YOur electric bill would go up if you charged an electric heli off of house power, by about $1 per month or less!!!!!!

I don't like electric

I have new JR Voyager-E,
It's been nothing but problems, First I had a bad Esc. it overheated in mid air, the motor quit, crashed and had to replace the tail boom and main blades, Now the motor slows down after lifting off and gradually wont stay up after only a few seconds. This heli is so delicate it can break itself spooling up. $399.00 heli looks like its worth $79.00.
This was the biggest RC mistake I ever made. Hope you guys have better luck, Im sticking with glow. Dan

Hi Dan,

"I don't like electric
I have new JR Voyager-E"

PLEASE, Don't let your experience with that POS brushed motor that comes with the Voyager descourage you from using or recommending electrics. No doubt you would have been warned about it as this is common knowledge. With a brushless motor it flies OK, but I might make another recommendation OTHER brushed setups with GOOD motors work fine, even in 60 sized helis.

Cheers!

Free energy?

The power station uses coal to power its generators so these helis are best described as coal fired

Thanks Ray

That is exactly the complaint I had to Mike Mas, and he said, if you dont like the way it is, write articles yourself

I tried to make it a bit more readable then the usual sterile reports of whatever is being tested is the greatest thing since sliced bread and for me, interest comes with things going occasionally wrong as well rather than be right all the time.

Theres more in the pipeline, I hope you enjoy those as well.

I pay $0.37 per kWh. Other parts of the country will be different. Probably less since they didn't have Gray Davis being totally sucked in by Enron.

20 cells of 3000 mAh battery will charge at around 30 V if you fast-charge.

So that's 30 V * 3 Ah = 0.09 kWh.

The charger efficiency will be about 70%, so the cost of one charge will
be 0.09 x 0.37 / 0.7 = $0.05.

Lets see, say 45V at 4A to charge for 30 mins. 180Watts then. Now lets see how long it would take a convection heater to use that energy -
2200watts / 180w = 12.2. 30/12.2 = 2mins 26secs.

Or for 30 mins of having the heater on you could have 12 charges.
