Aerobatic FAI F3C Contest > Huntsville 'funtest'/contest?

All con,
The Huntsville, AL heli club has agreed to host an AMA Class I, II, III and F3C (Schedule A and C) event/contest the weekend of November 10 - 11, 2007. The club will allow use to use their site (which I understand is really nice) for the event so long as 'we' run it. So, we'll do sort of what we do at Nashville, judge and score ourselves and run to Subway for lunch!

The club will be 'observing' the turnout and mechanics of the event in anticipation of hosting a 'real' contest next year. In short, we need to wholeheartedly support this event so we can havd it again next year and beyond. The FAI guys will be flying (trying to fly?) the '08 - '09 finals maneuvers (Schedule C), which should bring a few laughs!

Please chime in with your intent on attending this event, I'll try and keep a running tab. So far, I've got 5 'for sures'!

Best regards,
Cliff

I'm planning on being there. Do we have a hotel list? Me flying "C" will be more than just a chuckle, it may be guffaws!

Update.

Same number comitted, 5, still 1 maybe (easing towards 'more than likely).

I'll get the HSV boys to designate a hotel and see if I can get a block of rooms set aside.

I will see if we can arrange a deal with the same motel that gave us a block rate for our regular FF earlier this year. They did a great job and its a nice hotel, plus has the bonus of being close to the field.

New information the microtel hotel can give us a block rate.. We need to get 10 rooms for the block rate, they will work this out once achieved. Current room prices are $45 for single queen room and $55 for two queen beds. The guys who stayed there for the normal FF earlier this year said it was a good place to stay. When you make your reservations please inform them you are with the HHF group. The rate will be reduced when the rooms quota is met.
You can reach the microtel at

1820 Chase Creek Row
Huntsville, AL 35811
Tel: (256) 859-6655
Fax: (256) 859-6116

If you all desire other hotel information I will be glad to look up your favorite hotel locally.

I sure wish I could join you all as I'd love to see F3C in person. No one out where I am flies it....yet.

I am thinking about attending this although its a bit far for me.

Is there anyone going so far who will be flying Class I?

Class 1

Gosh, I surely hope so as we had a crop of new guys last year and they were doing really well. Hope to see all of them here. You need to show up for this just to laugh at me trying to fly the new FAI "C" schedule. It will be hysterical.

I hate to sound ignorant but I am. Can someone point me to the spot on the AMA website that I can download and review the different class maneuvers? I was thinking about trying for one of them myself but do not know what the manuevers are.

HAHA thanks for the props bud Honestly I had been there before during my search but I guess I didnt read further.. Its title is regulation and the first couple of pages talk about nothing but. I guess in this day and age I was looking for something like they had last year at Chatty.. An explanation, some pretty pictures and whalla.. All the information was there I just didnt read down far enough until GM put me back there again

Okay,

I am seriously thinking of coming to this just to watch Gordie do Schedule C, although he might end up having more laughs just watching me trying to do a roll.

Could someone enlighten me on what to expect so I can make arrangements? i.e. is it 2 days Saturday and Sunday for all classes? What time does it start? If it goes through Sunday what time would it normally end? Do most people arrive on Friday and leave on Monday?

Thanks
Niko

Expectations

Usually the actual contest starts Saturday morning and we fly about three rounds. We fly Sunday until about 1:00PM, have the awards ceremony, and then everyone hits the road toward home by 2:00 or so.
Many guys will show up Friday to practice on the field and tune and adjust their models to local altitude and temperature. Then we all go out to dinner and BS. Same would be true for Saturday evening, we go out to dinner and discuss how bad we suck. It's a blast and you can learn a LOT from these guys.
You won't learn ANYTHING watching me fly "C."

Gordie is kidding some, but I don't think many people realize how good a group of people we're talking about here. These are people to call your friends for a lifetime. And as tight as knit a group as we've become, it's also a group that instantly accepts newcomers into the fold.

Even if you don't fly, you can pretty well bet you'll take home more knowledge than you would have thought possible.

I made my hotel reservations today. Looking forward getting there.

Now I just need to get my Stratus ready. It should be up and running this weekend so that should give me about a month to get comfortable with it.
