Crashed? Discussion and Photos > Head seperated from main shaft after crash very little damage.........

I was flying a SE V2 today just tossing it around a bit to get the feel for the new radix blades I just installed. Well started to try and do a few inverted backwards hurricane. Pulled out a few times cause I felt uncomfortable. Finally commited to do it. Half way into it i got too low tried to abort but heli went in pretty hard tail first. After my walk of shame and a little post crash inspection. Found the bolt for my head sheared right off and I had only the head and about 3 mm of the bolt stuck on the head. Mains were scratched, broke one tail rotor, bent a couple linkage rods, bent flybar, barely noticable boom, chipped paint on canopy, boom support rods popped off.

Has anyone had the bolt just shear off? I think it caused my damage to be lessened alot. Will post pics ASAP

Sounds like you were out of your comfort zone, crashed and discovered a broken / sheared jesus bolt.

If the jesus bolt broke in flight you would have either see your rotor disk flying without the fuselage or have felt a sloppy control system where stick inputs do not have a crisp responds.

Well this was my first attempt at doing an inverted backwards hurricane. I guess I went to the field with two left thumbs hehehehe. I'll get it this weekend though.
If I were to only stay in my comfort zone I'd never get any better.

I meant 4x, 3x, or 2x mistakes high, then when your comfortable with the maneuver bring it on down.

oh sorry for the miss interpretation. I got you very good advice Girard. I try to get it as high as possible before I try a new manuever but these little 450's get small real fast and so I bring it in a little closer and lower and thats where my problem is.

Thanks

I have my head broken off the main shaft many time already, i have a V2 as well, my first crash with it have i have head broken off. with carbon blade, cause my head speed is aroun 3300+ RPM it's small juess bolt just not tough enough to stand the hit. ceack it every time when u crash, and usually if not broken, it will bent, i even have the head broken off in air once, but it looks cool when it heppen.
just make sure that u check that bolt often, exp after each crash.

Fly the way i want => IRON NUT
