Align T-REX 600N 700N > Tail wagging

Hi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running a 600N sport with a OS 50 hyper and a CSM gyro and JR8900g tail servo, I have set up the gyro as I have done many times with my EVO 50, but I am unable to stop the tail wag on the 600N.

I have taken out my engine and swapped it with my EVO's engine in case there was a problem there, still wags, I have been up and down the gain, still wags.

I have replaced the servo with another 8900g still wags.

I have swapprd the CSM 420L gyro with the one in my EVO, still wags.

I have upgraded to the metal Align fan, still wags.

I have fitted a Revlock 20, still wags.

I have stripped down everything on the frames to ensure the main shaft is free running it still wags.

Why does the 600N have a tail wag issue, I have searched through this site and HF I see lots of unresolved issues in terms of tail wagging. WHAT CAN IT BE THAT CAUSES THIS. ITS MAKING ME WANT TO GIVE UP ON THE 600N.

hi

Hi casper,

I'm running a similar set like yours using the JR770t gyro
with the 8900g tail servo. I'm not using any type of governer
agt the monent but I too am having the tail waggin problem

my gain on my futaba 9chp is nearly at its lowest setting
of 53% only...the tail is quite steady..but when I get my
head speed to about 2150rpm the tail wags violently.

the instructions specifically states that between 49-51%
of the gyro is prohibited.

I move the lingkage for my servo horn to the lowest hole
when on the ground the servo twitches like crazy...

I have still yet to determind this problem... but I wont
give up till I find out whats going on...

this is the first heli built by me.....
hope you find out soon too

regards

I have spent the past 8 weeks trying to stop the tail drift on my 600n it was driving me nuts. The other day i decided to fit a Kasama tail hub and blade grips off one of my Raptors.
Problem solved now the tail is locked and no wag or hunting.
Check out the bearings in the grips.

How bad was your wag before you replaced the grips Falcon? I have heard a lot of problems solved by changing the grips, but for some strange reason have not done it myself yet.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to break down the tail in the morning and see what the bearings are like.

I will keep you posted of my results.

Hi micknick
When in the hover the tail would move left and right a couple of inches very slowly like it was floating. Winding up the gain maid no difference until it started hunting.
It was ok in forward flight and seemed ok backwards through i didn't feel confident in backward flight or flipping it with this problem but now it rips.

Best i have flown in 30 years flying on the sticks except my 600E

Its hardly a gyro problem when its not solved by lowering the gain.

I had similar issues (tail jerky and jumping around without a defined pattern)and here's what fixed it:

1. second bearing in TT (stopped the jumping around and I only ended with a pure horizontal wag)

2. Basic Tail rotor mod as explained in the electric section (you shave off 0.2mm of the outer thrust bearing so it has some play) and lube everything very well

My tail wag went completely away. This should fix your problem too I guess... there are alot of posts about the thrusted tail rotor problem in the electric section and most solved it like that.

However I still find it a little nervous around hovering compared to my evo so I went for the advanced tail rotor mod (double radial bearings and simple thrust with extended bolts) and zeal gel on the gyro... will report tomorrow.

Tony

stop the tail drift

hmmm you got me thinking now, I have put 15 tanks through my 600N and I have been experiencing tail drifting I've not had any tail wag at all but the drifting has been doing my head in so I sent my Futaba GY611 back for a check - I'm getting the feeling it's a mechanical problem

Matt.

Sounds about right, typical I have sent my gyro back to futaba services....2 weeks and not looked at yet and they told me they are busy and it it will be another week at least
and from what it sounds like the gyro is prob ok.

I was thinking to myself...I cannot believe my GY611 is drifting...I mean it just does not happen with a 611.

I think I need to get the quick UK tail hub !

and would you believe the weather at the moment is SPOT ON !!

Matt.

Blade grips are the cause of wags. I have had bad wagging on my pro and sport. fitted Kasama blade grips and the tail holds solid on both helis.

Same issue has been on T600E since day one.

I used Raptor 50 QuickUK tail hub unit on mine and never looked back, just dont forget the set the limit of the gyro correctly because else the tail might lock up (it can overthrow it)

I have over 200 flights on my 600e and i never had a problem absolutly locked.
When flew my 600N I was beginning to think it was the torque tube drive sine the 600E is belt but you live and learn.
