| Well, I don't get to fly my nitro much anymore, so I thought I would fix up my electric Hummingbird 3D Pro so I could fly in my front yard. I had crashed the 3D Pro previously, I had trouble getting the parts, etc, so I was down about 2 months. But I finally got it back in the air and was flying it but having a lot of tail issues. I had a crappy gyro in it, so I thought I would take my 401 out of the nitro and put it in the 3D Pro. I put the gyro in and set it up in Normal mode, etc. I lifted the HD Pro off the ground and it worked great. The tail was holding perfect. I decided to go to Idle Up 1 and the heli completely freaked out. It was only about 3 feet up and spun in onto the concrete. I forgot to hit throttle hold too. Well, after investigating I realized that I only set the gyro for the normal flight mode. In Idle Up 1 and 2 I had left the default value of 0 in there. So basically no gyro with a sudden increase in head speed. Fortunately just the blades, landing gear, and main gear were damaged. It took about 1 hour to repair. I then set the gyro in all flight modes. I had the heli in the air and was going up with different head speeds and then landing and adjusting the gyro. About the 5th time up I was at about 20 feet and the heli slowly starts going forward. I could not stop the forward movement. It starts going for some trees in my neighbors yard and I then decide to turn it. It then really dives hard so I give full power and remarkably it comes out of the dive about 3 feet high, so I hit throttle hold and it actually semi landed in the grass with no damage. I inspect the heli and found out that I had stripped the gears in my cyclic servo. Mainly because I did not inspect the heli close enough after the first wreck. The gears probably just let loose after a few minutes of flying. My moral: 1. I was in too much of a rush to check through the control set up in all flight modes. Dumb mistake cost about $25.00. 2. I did not thoroughly inspect the heli for damage after the first crash and missed the damaged servo. Fortunately no damage.
