well the old ego was a bit battered today, gut feeling was i am gonna crash today,

well i was practicing my F3C manouvers, and B test, i line dup for the top hat manouver and suddenly mid air the hellie roared, and i had no control at all, it wasnt a lock out, or anything as then engine was reving, i fought and fought in the end i bottemed the stick and inevitable happend. i managed to fight it all the way down and miss the river, so it landed side into the ground onto the bank.

But it was totally confusing me,it was only on closer inspection and after taking the canop off i noticed the throttle lead has come loose from the gyro and the gyro was hanging off, luckliy i was not doing any fast manouvers, the annoying thing is i am so ANAL over pre flight checks, and even in between each tank before i re start after refuelling i alwasy jiggle the sticks around, i did and nothing untoward, but in my prev flight i noticed the tail was kicking - THIS WAS THE WARNING SIGN, whcih i thought nothing of, now i know better.

The reason for this post is GUYS IF YOU DONT ALREADY CABLE TIE OR TIE SOME VELCRO STRAP AROUND YOUR GYRO.

sorry to hear about it.its always disapointing when a crash happens when it could of been prevent.
why however would you have a throttle cable hooked up to the gyro?
just confused

Bad news Matt, glad it was not one of your turbine fleet
I would not jump to conclusions as to what caused your mishap until you have done a complete check on all the parts, especially the battery
The gyro comming off looks like impact damage, it just riped off, I have had a few bad crashes using Futaba gyro's and in a lot of cases the gyro stayed attached
Keep us posted

HI Daz,
Sorry about that my misprint, it was the sensor lead that come out of the GV1 box, it hadnt come right out, it was loose.

This maybe is what could also have happend, which may explain why my engine suddely roared, and maybe me in my pannick was stirring the sticks too much thinking i had no control when i really had all that had happend was the sensor lead could have come out,

I am not jumping to conclusions as of yet, i am taking it over to Dave fishers Next week, i have left everything as it is, so maybe his experienced eye will pick out what it could be.

What is baffling me, is the ofllowing

1 - it did not go into fail safe, despite on the pre flight check fail safe was working.

2 i bottomed my stick, and it went in sideways, the engine YS91st, was idling peacefully, i switched it off via the throttle cut - so battery power was there, and proved no fail safe had occurred.

3 - i left everything on, and took it back to the benches, i moved the sticks around on TX and everything was working fine, the only thing was theottle servo was now jumping, but on the onboard battery checker was still in the green

4 i am using duralite battery setup with a regulator - so i cannot say how much i put in, to confirm this was the second flight.

5 on the prev flight i noticed the tail was kicking, this is 611 gyro.

yup strap it while you can, I like alot of other guys learned the hard way. Now I always check my sensor and put velcro straps or cable ties with fuel tubing

Been there and there's nothing you could do but put up a good fight.

I contact cement a small patch of velcro on the gyro so that it will mate with the velcro strap that is secured to the frames.

well tonight i have spent 3hrs with my flying school trying to get the bottom of whay and what happend.

In the end we putit down to 2 possible things, this though is not a certainty, but by process of elimination ended up being the probable cause.

we ruled out the gyro falling off in mid flight, as it seemed to be impact damage that had caused it to rip off.
The reason we felt this was the machine was NOT doing the funkey chicken if the gyro had come off the tail would have been piroing all over the place, it was not, i had lost temp control and only 2 aeleron & throttle channels were working.

We also ruled out someone switching on the same channel, as it would have gone into fail safe- it didnt.

we also ruled out the Throttle sensor coming loose, as i have a back up throttle curve set up in conjunction with the GV 1 in case of such an event.

we then came to a probabaly cause, i was able to rock the clutch bell housing, this is a problem on the ventures, the clutch shaft sometimes drops and the bearing becomes nothcy as it falls down thus allowing the clutch to rock, a good way to see if it has is once landed, is to spin the clutch bell, it should be smooth with no notchyness, mine was making a noise as if metal was grinding on metal,it sounded awful.

So we came to the conclusion this was the probable cause, in a situation something like this would not cause a full lock out, but it would cause somekind of RF interneference enough to cause momentry loss of control.

this could explain the temp kick of the tail whilst in a stall turn, and then every other stall turn was no problem.

If i had been up higher the chances are i would have got away with it. But because it was a hover with skids at eye level there was no time, and as i had lost control, i bottomed the stick for safety reasons and allowed it to go in sideways.

All i would say to any Venture 90 owners, is check your clutch and bell housing, if it rocks check the bearing, and replace.
I was told a way round it but i cannot remember it accurately.this is the 2nd clutch housing shaft i have had to replace. in a year.

Has anyone wrapped electrical tape arround the gyro/boom? I am considering doing that but wanted to check to make sure it doesn't cause a problem. (looks like sh1t but if it does the job...)

Thanks!

My GY401 fell of my evo.50 a few days ago, it made a 270degree piro, and after this a managed to land it safely. The tail wagged about 60cm/ 2feet, and it was a tricky landing, cause the gyro was hanging int the cable and every elevator input made the heli to yaw.

At first I thought it was the tail servo failing( futaba 9254), I read that there has been problems with this servo. I didŽnt se the gyro hanging cause I had left side of the heli facing me. After I checked it I tried to hover again and it didnt hold the tail so I landed and found the gyro hanging.

No I put another brand of double sided tape, and added a rubber band to secure the gyro.
